Rubin Carter

Krishnamurti's 1973 San Francisco talk explicitly connects the images we construct of ourselves and others with division and conflict in relationship.

Why wouldn't you go buy Krishnamurti's Freedom from the Known book? You guys remember the movie Hurricane Carter played by the great actor Denzel Washington? Hurricane Carter, before he passed away, it was part of his story, believed that Krishnamurti saved his life while he was in prison.

There's a famous, there's an awesome scene in the movie Hurricane Carter when Denzel himself is in his cell and he has Krishnamurti's book, The First and Last Freedom.

In that scene, Denzel is reading the book because in Hurricane Carter's mind, freedom was in the mind and it didn't matter where he was.

He was still himself.

And that book and Krishnamurti's work led Hurricane Carter to liberate himself while he was still incarcerated.

Amazing work.

Listen, that was the first 30 minutes.

Uh, Cumulus Jacot, Aurora Borealis, which is another callback to the, um, From Earth to Starbucks, uh, episode where Sean leads the laser symposium thing where his name is Aurora Borealis.

Um, [laughs] Humid Lazenby, Frozen Diamond Doppler Dewey, Hurricane Carter, another callback.

Hurricane Carter-

Yep

...

Jesus, yep.

Yep.

Uh, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Hurricane Carter, Leif Garrett, A Time to Kill, right? Being a, you know, uh, uh, great house.

Jesus Christ.

It's a bit like Hurricane Carter.

Remember the boxer? The one that Denzel Washington did that beautiful movie.

Uh, uh, uh, uh, what was it called? Hurricane or something like that.

Yeah, based off of Hurricane Carter, the boxer, who I think he served something like 20 years for something he didn't do.

It's just crazy, you know.

Wow.

Mm-hmm.

Question one, Denzel Washington, Rubin Carter, and boxing.

Locked in.

Locked in.

Hmm.

Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, pro boxer, wrongfully convicted of a triple murder in New Jersey, 1967.

Federal courts eventually overturned his conviction, as if we're supposed to trust federal courts, but hey.

Citing the prosecution's case was built on racism rather than reason.

You know, the hurricane or whatever.

Hurricane Carter.

Hurricane Carter or whatever, the Guilford Four, whatever it is.

Lockie Neal is

free.

You know, the hurricane or whatever.

Hurricane Carter.

Hurricane Carter or whatever, the Guilford Four, whatever it is.

Lockie Neal is

free.

And then this one stretching the bounds of of the rules, but I I'm calling it an acceptable because it is a nickname, but a kind of a nom de guerre or kind of a nom de guerre.

And that's Hurricane by Bob Dylan about Ruben Hurricane Carter.

Hmm.

Yeah, I think he counts under the Cassavetes principle.
