If PlayStation doesn't comment on it or do it officially, right? Like this is a very big point that there is a ton of people right now that are saying, you know, you said PS3 backwards compatibility wasn't possible.

But what is this? I can take any, like, what do you mean? Are you telling me that like the bunch of people who have been running RPCS3 for years and years have managed to do work that you deemed impossible? That doesn't make a lot of sense because they're, you know, they're, they're, they're 20 dudes in a discord and you're a multi-billion dollar company.

What do you mean it's impossible?

Also, do you guys think they're actually going to stream PS3 games on cell processors forever? Like they have to have an emulator to be able to do that without their like 45 nanometer garbage old CPUs they have in a closet somewhere.

Just something worth mentioning on here, since we're still on the topic of PS3, and this will be the last PS3 specific topic here.

But this is from the RPCS3 team, and they state here, beware of fake Blu-ray drives.

There has been a recent influx of fake Blu-ray drives.

These fakes use older drives that cannot read PS3 discs with enclosures and packaging for higher end models plus spoof firmware.

But the one I'm just going to really highlight here is a port of PCSX2 for PS5 from developer Sword PDF.

Of course, it does have multiple other contributors and it does heavily utilize Claude as well, too, for this.

But I'm highlighting this emulator because we've also seen other emulators, for example, like RPCS3, the PS3 emulator ported over to the PS5.

But a lot of these emulators due to how fast they're being ported over due to, you know, using AI for either assistance or straight up vibe coding on there, the performance is kind of up and down on them.

An emulator recreates enough of the original console's hardware and software behavior to allow you to execute software games, in this case, on another system.

So examples of this include Dolphin, which emulates Nintendo's GameCube and Wii hardware, PCSX2, which emulates PlayStation 2, RPCS3, which emulates PlayStation 3.

Emulation itself is not automatically illegal.

However, obtaining copyrighted games, firmware, or encryption keys without authorization can create legal problems.

And so since that last episode, the two weeks have gone by, um, PCSX2 ported over.

RPCS3 is not fully released.

That was from sword under- underscore PDF.

Think that's still in alpha for them.

Uh, and that also applies to digital PS5s, where you can just attach a straight up USB external drive.

If you don't have a disc drive, you can buy a third-party drive, insert a DVD, it'll play it.

And then with RPCS3, very much the same deal.

Insert a PlayStation 3 disc, it'll launch it, it'll play it.

I think that what you're saying is best.

Like, there's a lot of people that if they're in the PlayStation ecosystem, they likely have PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 games, and those are now on the hacked PlayStation 5s showing that they can run just fine with an RPCS3 emulator.

So it's like y- you had all of this opportunity to just do it, and you were just like, "No, we're not gonna do that." And all of those people that would've been goodwill for them, but now they have a single system that could play their entire PlayStation lib- library going back to PlayStation 1.

It has to be everything.

So, um, you know, maybe it was just like, "Well, we can't use RPCS3, so we'd have to build something ourself," and then getting engineers to do that and paying them, and then it's gonna be the X, Y, Z cost, and why would we do that? Sure.

But I don't know.

But there is a decompiled native port, which means it can unlock nicer things, although I'm talking about the Super FX one today.

The Darkness, on the other hand, you'd need Xenia or RPCS3.

So that's an Xbox 360 or a PS3 emulator.

And they are quite demanding on a PC.

Anyway, speaking of getting there and tangents...

Ratchet and Clank Quest for Booty running on a jailbroken PS5 Pro through RPCS3.

Still kind of ridiculous seeing PS3 emulation running like this on actual PlayStation hardware.

Now obviously this is one of the less demanding PS3 games.

DroidDeck also allows a secondary screen or phone to serve as a trackpad keyboard or debugging terminal without cluttering your gameplay.

And there are options to launch an LXQt desktop environment to run Linux desktop apps or k- or compiled ARM64 emulators like DeckStation or RPCS3.

And but DroidDeck does require newer hardware to run on your phone and handheld devices.

And, uh, w- one of the requirements is a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with an Adreno 730 or newer GPU, such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 2, 3, 7 Plus, Gen 2.
