The Saudi-led coalition said Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone south of Mecca at 6.50 p.m. Tuesday before it entered the holy city's restricted airspace.

The interception came amid renewed Houthi drone and missile attacks on Saudi Arabia.

Coalition spokesman Turki Almaki said the security of the two holy mosques and pilgrims was a red line.

The Houthis, however, deny reports of launching a drone attack yesterday on Islam's holiest city, Mecca.

The Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces say on Tuesday it intercepted and destroyed a hostile drone launch from Yemen before it entered Mecca's prohibited airspace.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, made up of 57 member states, named the Houthis in its condemnation of the, quote, heinous attack.

Mecca is sacred to Muslims around the world, the focal point of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
