Roy Benavidez

in my opinion, done way more than me.

Um, you know, like Roy Benavidez.

I got to meet him as a child.

Oh, cool.

And, uh, they threw his body into this pile.

But somebody, by the grace of God, recognized that that was Roy Benavidez.

And so the doc went over to try to see if he was still alive, and, um, they couldn't find a pulse.

And they put him in a body bag, and the zipper was coming up.

They told him he'd never walk again.

He said, uh, "Here, hold my beer, watch this." And he would walk again, and he would fake his own papers so he could jump out of airplanes again, and he went to Special Forces school just so he can go back to Vietnam.

That's the kind of man Roy Benavidez was.

And, uh, I don't know how I got down on that.

Actually, yeah, that's the only one I can think of right now as far as the opening line, but I'm kinda proud of that opening line as well.

Um, first of all, Legend is the story of Roy Benavidez, who was a Vietnam-era Medal of Honor recipient, and he was, um- A Green Beret, right? Green Beret.

Yeah.

And just a absolute total badass.

Easy.

He was so wiped out that, um, well, okay, as far as crazy stories, that segues perfectly into what happened.

If, if you can imagine, um, Roy Benavidez, again, I wrote, it's called Legend, and what's cool about this particular version, 'cause there's a couple of Roy Benavidez books.

This is actually the, um, the paperback.

All right, you're not gonna believe this one.

Okay, Roy Benavidez, he's in Vietnam.

He's a Texan and he's sitting on a Ford base and he listens to a special forces ODA.

He's a special, he's a Green Beret getting a gunfight.

He'd been so wounded.

There's nothing that he could do besides spit on this dude to let him know that you're still alive.

He's like, oh my God, Roy Benavidez is still alive.

That's a good one.

Ray, uh, or Roy Benavidez essentially, essentially died and then came back to life as they were zipping up his body bag.

But if we talk about his story, and he took a bunch of rounds, but the only thing he could muster to let people know he was alive was to spit in the guy's face who was zipping up his body bag.

Roy Benavidez just didn't come back to life and get right back into the fight.

So what we're saying is, and let's walk this down for a second, what we're saying is, after taking two rounds to the chest and bleeding out an hour, he's back up, and he's, and he's fighting the enemy in a firefight? That's just very hard to believe.

But we don't have to believe that.
