Round Midnight

He is kind of, like, the third or fourth most important character in Round Midnight, the, uh, Chet Baker movie.

Um, well, Around Midnight's an example.

That, he, uh, had been in Paris.

You were talking about how this is what you do.

And it reminded me, I heard this story on the set of Round Midnight, you know, the film with Dexter Gordon, and that someone gave a note to Billy Higgins to say, play like Vernel Fournier.

And Brunel Fournier found out about it and apparently was upset that he didn't get the call.

But I understand you brought Billy Higgins to a set.

I know that there was a version of it, and I can't remember the singer.

I don't know if you ever saw this film in the mid-'80s called 'Round Midnight, uh, with Dexter Gordon playing as maybe a version of himself.

He'd moved to Paris about the time where rock and roll came into America, and he's playing the Blue Note Club in Paris every night for a while.

Makes friends with a local French fan, and there's a lot of great jazz music played live to film.

And one of the singers in that film is doing that song, and that was my introduction to it back in the mid-'80s.

I love that movie.

I've only ever seen it once.
