As they chat, Shane learns that Rose Landry, one of the stars of X Squad, is at the party.

That perks him up.

He orders a second beer.

A few beers later, a wobbly Shane slides into a booth without realizing Rose is already sitting there.

She offers him some fries and introduces herself.

Shane already knows who she is.

And I bet you're pretty fucking good, too, right?

He can't be fucking Rose Landry.

So I don't have anything to worry about.

And I guess because for Troy, even though he knows he's gay and has had gay experiences, his gay experiences was, were with another person who was anxious about coming out.

Mm-hmm.

And Ailea's like, just tell him, just fess up, tell him, you know, like unload this burden.

And I actually laughed in this conversation because Shane goes, can I actually tell Rose?

Yes, they're very fluent.

Yes.

So then Shane does actually tell Rose and she greets him with so much enthusiasm and love and excitement at him getting dicked down.

Like she's thrilled for him.

I wanted to get your opinion on something that I haven't seen anyone talk about.

I've always wondered how much Shane realizes that Ilya was jealous and hurt about him and Rose.

Did he understand that at the club Ilya was trying to hurt him by dancing with that woman because he saw Shane with Rose? Or was it at the All-Stars when Ilya kept asking about Rose? Or was it not until the cottage when Rose texts Shane and Ilya reacts very jealously to that? Or was it somewhere in between that the viewers didn't get to see, but they will likely sort it out between them? Thoughts?" So I would say for both of them, I think they are operating from their own pain in these moments involving Rose, and you're unable to consider the motives of the other person that deeply if you're like Shane and Ilya and you live inside your head, and that's especially true for Shane.

I think Shane is always aware of the fact that Ilya can hook up with whoever he wants, and he has in the past.

So when he's at the club in episode four and he spots Ilya with the woman on the dance floor, to me, Shane is only thinking of his own hurt in seeing Ilya with someone else and not that he could have been the cause behind Ilya's actions in that moment.

Because Shane was trying to move on, and he's trying to convince himself that being with Rose, who is the first girl he truly got along with and could envision being with, is the right thing for him to do.

And it's the only way forward because being with Ilya is not realistic or possible to him.

But seeing Ilya again reinforces to Shane that it is different with Ilya and that this feeling of wanting him isn't going to go away, even if he's pretending his way through this relationship with Rose.

Mm-hmm.

Rose Landry visits and it's hilarious because she charms every single person and goes for the hug with Ilya and he's just like alright I guess this is happening I

love it

and Ilya has some feelings about her being there because you know shane left him to date her yeah and uh so she's kind of like you know he's gotten over it a little bit but she's still one of the top enemies i think internally for him like

right which is so funny because obviously shane has now come out like

he's gay

doesn't matter it just doesn't matter ilia is still like rose landry i don't like you

yeah um but there's a moment where she says something like oh he's talked about you and ilia's like oh that's what this visit is you know it's it's not rose being his opponent or a threat but this visit is rose coming to like size him up and um there's this really funny bit where rose is talking to shane about like well i know you have your reasons for sticking around and shane is like don't talk about reasons in the same room as him

Shane freaks out after they say each other's first names for the first time, and he leaves.

Then he meets Rose at that bar in Montreal.

And in December, he and Rose begin dating and are caught together by paparazzi, and it gets pushed all over the internet leading up to Christmastime.

Scott scores a goal right before meeting Kip in November, and then he ends up getting superstitious about that.

He goes on a streak after he meets Kip.

It's a big deal for him in terms of turning his drought around, and he starts to think that there's s- some superstition that he should subscribe to about getting the smoothie before the game, and that's what kickstarts their whole storyline.

So again, that's January 2017 in the book, and in the show, that takes place in 2013-2014.

In January of 2017 is when we see Shane and Rose break up in downtown Montreal, in old Montreal, and he Uh, admits to her that he is gay.

It's amazing.

The, the Rose Landry of it all, her being like, "When other girls fancied whoever, I, all, I only had eyes for Nathan Lane" is just...
