Rose City Comic Con

If you were breaking down an hourly, it'd be way under, but it felt like this huge, like, wow, amazing.

And so, The first time I properly met Matt and got to hang out with him and, like, celebrate our collaboration and celebrate the Odyssey was at Rose City Comic Con.

Oh, I want to say it was about 12 years ago, something like that.

And when I was there, one of the other guests was one of my all-time favourite comic book artists, Mike Mignola.

I introduced myself.

I said, I'm working on this book with Matt Fraction.

I'm coming to Rose City Comic Con.

You're like one of my favorite artists of all time.

Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

So we actually got to meet each other in person at Rose City Comic Con not too long ago, back in September.

And you had a bit of a mixed experience.

There were some mixed emotions going on because you specifically came out to that to have a portfolio review with an editor, correct? That is correct, yep.

Welcome to this week's show.

We're going to be having James Sherwood with The Vault in our next segment covering a card game that we saw at Rose City Comic Con.

It's going to be kind of a fun interview.

He is back.

But he is back.

He's going to be giving us a review on a game called World of Kylia.

This is something that we saw at the Rose City Comic Con, which was really kind of cool.

And he's going to deep dive into that and talk a little bit about that.

Yeah.

I mean, we had Rose City Comic Con a few weeks ago, now two weekends ago at time of recording, uh, and you know, the first couple days after a convention you always feel a little bit crummy just 'cause, like, that-

Yeah

... con crud kicks in.

Yes, you could be.

I would like to talk about Rose City Comic Con, which I just went to last weekend, and it was a hoot like it always was.

I, of course, spent my time at the Hero Initiative table helping them raise money for a great cause and did a bunch of other things around the con associated with that.

But at our table, we had Tom Rainey.

And we have some merchandise available on Redbubble.

Go to redbubble.com and search for Unpacking the Power of Power Pack.

Jeff and Merck present is a bi-weekly self-produced podcast recorder in front of a live studio audience of a very tall stack of books that I purchased at Rose City Comic Con, which I will never, ever get finished reading in Portland, Oregon.

If you would like to interact with us through the magic of the Internet, you can do so through Blue Sky at Jeff and Rick present our Facebook page.

Yeah

... a corporate company that, uh, owns Fan Expo, uh, went out and made some purchases in the last couple weeks, and one of those was Rose City Comic Con.

Um, Left Field Media was the corporate entity that, uh, owned Rose City Comic Con, uh, for the last several years and, um, we'll see how all that goes.

Uh, uh, I have a connection with Fan Expo.

Um, I, uh, have an opportunity to do, uh, hosting panels for them.

Uh, uh, my associate, uh, professional, uh, contact, Kevin Boyd, uh, who runs the creator side of the Fan Expo shows, um, and I have worked together the last three years, and so I'm interested to see how all this plays out.

My understanding is is sort of the corporate messaging right now is keep doing what you're doing, um, which is, uh, uh, great news.

My hope is, is, uh, as Rose City and Left Field Media, um, uses the Friday night drink and draw at Rose City Comic Con as a big fundraiser for the Hero Initiative, uh, I'm hoping to be able to continue that relationship.

Uh, you can find links to them in our show notes, and just a big thank you to them for supporting the show.

Uh, Kate and I got to hang out with most of them at Rose City Comic Con, and they are simply wonderful, so please, please, please, please go give them a listen.

And Tales of the Ever After will be back on Tuesday, October 27th.

We'll see you then, interns.

But what you could really what you really should call it is that I'm just taking time for myself.

You know, these last couple of weeks, what have I done? I have I have I mean, OK, I went to Rose City Comic Con.

I worked Rose City Comic Con, but.

In the days leading up to that, I was with my brother-in-law and my sister-in-law.

I was enjoying Portland, right? I do Rose City Comic Con over the weekend.

I come home.

I'm home for three days.

we? Maybe.

It's like, I think for like, Rose City Comic Con.

It's like, when are you the person? When are you that guy who says that's not how that would be? And it's like, that's how I feel about this house.

I'm like, I've been in rich people's houses, you know, working as staff and stuff like that.

It was kind of a bigger one.

Uh, so Informa, which is the owner of the Fan Expo k- uh, events, has purchased Clarion, which owns something called Left Field Media, and Left Field Media is the company that runs Anime NYC, the Rose City Comic Con.

They're gonna run that new KPX thing.

Like, they run a bunch of nerd conventions that some of you probably go to or know about, and they're all merged up into one big fucking deal, and this purchase price was $2.8 billion.
