Let's break down what some of those things mean and what you're looking for If you suspect that reds is what you're dealing with.

Yeah, the diagnostic workup starts really based on what the athlete is coming in with, right? So like if they are coming in with a bone stress injury versus I haven't had my period in three months versus fatigue, we may be ordering different labs.

And I want to also clarify, this comes after I sit down with them and we just do a history and physical, right? So I'm starting off just asking questions about what does their activity level look like? And if it's a female athlete asking a lot of questions about their period, if they're on birth control, like, why did you go on birth control? Did you go on birth control because you had abnormal periods? Like, right.
18:26
Like that's something that like a lot of people don't think about because it's important because that's going to change the workup.
18:31
Right.
18:31
So if someone's on hormonal birth control, typically I'm not checking hormone levels as part of the diagnostic workup, but somebody who comes in and is like, yeah, I haven't had a period in three months like that, you know, we're definitely checking like estradiol LHFSH.
18:47
And so it's, I get asked by my trainees all the time, what is the list of everything I should be ordering? And I hesitate to say like, this is a blanket list because you also have to be very aware of cost for some people.

What does the medical management of that look like?
