Root Glacier

In the summer of 2017, I worked at a lodge in McCarthy, Alaska, located within the Wrangell St. Elias National Park, which is the biggest and most wild national park in the United States.

One of the ways I would relax and enjoy the area was I would walk down to the toe of the Root Glacier.

The Root Glacier was a place I would watch rocks and ice slide and fall into the Glacier Lake.

I often stopped and patiently waited for bears that often moved through the area.

Towards the end of the summer, Ann and I decided to take a break and drive my pickup to the toe of the Root Glacier.

I drove my beat-up Toyota and slowly drove down the trails, usually used by four-wheelers, towards the toe.

While I was driving, I noticed a black animal's head just over a small hill.

But it is another option that's quieter and there if you want to more fully explore the park.

In terms of must-do things in Wrangell-St. Elias, one of the things that you're definitely going to want to do is the Root Glacier hike.

Yes.

And you can do this in a few different ways.

And the guide was happy to like take pictures of everybody and stuff too.

So pretty cool.

So definitely a must do in Wrangell St. Elias National Park is that root glacier trail hike.

Another must-see or must-do, I guess I should say, is taking a tour of the Kennecott Mill.
