And Mike Westbrook had a big band, a wonderful big band, and he introduced me to that freeform kind of music.

And in fact, he took me up underage with my cousin Alan, who was a great sax player as well, up to the old place, Ronnie Scott's Old Place, to hear the band.

And at first I thought, I thought he was talking about a place that I was playing opposite.

They were coming on the London jazz scene.

You know, the 606 and the Ronnie Scott.

I was always envious of the great musicians they had going to play there.

And sometimes they'd go to Swansea.

There was a little jazz club.

little jazz club which was called the Flute and Tankard which I was inspired by because the only small it was up on the first floor as well well I had this room upstairs well it was a restaurant upstairs it was a kitchen and a dining area so I just took the kitchen out got rid of the kitchen knocked it all through into one sort of straight piece and put a stage in it a nice bar and I thought I want to open a jazz club you know I want to see some great music in Cardiff And so that's what I've done.

And I'm using, you know, the people, the Ronnie Scott's crew, 606, the jazz, you know, the Pizza Express.

I'm trying to get that type of musicianship to Cardiff because it wasn't coming again.
