Now, the last time a human being stepped foot on the moon was December of 1972.

Gene Cernan, Ron Evans, and Jack Schmitt, who's actually the only professional geologist to ever walk on the moon, fun fact, they took off on Apollo 17 and ended up recording not just one incident, but three.

The first event is classified as the Fourth of July.

In this story, the crew reports a field of extremely bright particles, and these, like, weird angular fragments tumbling past the spacecraft as they maneuver, and compare it to the Fourth of July.

The crew and mission control discussed whether it could have been, like, the spent S-IVB rocket stage, but there was never an official confirmation on what this was.

And then, of course, there's the third incident.

While Cernan and Schmitt are literally standing on the moon, Ron Evans remains alone on the command module and reported seeing two flashing objects at the same time.

And while Ron was seeing this from the command module, Schmitt describes something that he was seeing while standing on the moon.

Gene Cernan, during the Apollo 17 mission, reported seeing, right before falling asleep, "A very bright spot" that flashed right between his eyes, "Like a very bright headlight, like a train coming at you, only with a flash." Speaking of Apollo 17, things got a bit more interesting.

It was the final mission of the Apollo space program, which saw Gene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt become the last two men to set foot on the moon, at least for the foreseeable future, while Command Module Pilot Ronald Evans orbited above them.

Just a few hours into the mission, they reported seeing a lot of bright fragments floating through space.

A few, uh, very bright particles or fragments or something that, uh, go drifting by as we maneuver.
