What do you think healthcare professionals and researchers sometimes underestimate about living with IBS, IBS-C, IBS-D? What do you think?

So I think I'm fortunate working at the Rome Foundation now that we have so many just passionate experts.

And I think that they have their eyes so wide open and they understand it really well.

I think, but what I see when talking with patients and through my previous experiences is that like, The day-to-day providers don't necessarily have that same sort of understanding that these experts that I work with have.

I was at a primary care checkup at some point recently.

And they asked what I did for work.

And I mentioned I worked at the Rome Foundation.

And they were like, oh, it's the Rome Foundation.

It's very, very characteristic symptom pattern.

People need to meet what are called the Rome 5 criteria for IBS now, which are well described and available to clinicians to use.

And if people meet the Rome 5 criteria and have normal screening tests, that really is very, very clearly a diagnosis that you can make of IBS.

And I think it's education for the providers.

It's also education for patients to realize that they shouldn't accept that they've got normal tests and there's nothing wrong with them when they've got symptoms.

Some of these Parkinson's patients also have IBS.

They clearly have IBS clinically.

You know, they fit the syndrome, they meet the criteria, the Rome criteria.

And that's people who come in with everything ranging from IBS like symptoms to much more comprehensive and consequential syndromes.

There's a long list of them under what's called the Rome Foundation.

And that's what brought me more than anything to cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome is that CHS is listed under this is part of this group of disorders, DGBIs, disorders of gut brain interaction.

And so combining my interest with disorders of gut brain interaction, which became very personal for me when my mother-in-law nearly died of one, as well with my professional experience, which was seeing increased rates of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome in the emergency department, I identified CHS as a way that we could really help a lot of people feel a lot better.
