Romana Didulo

This all tied into a general mistrust of government on the extreme fringes of both parties, but especially on the right.

It was out of this primordial soup that Romana Didulo bubbled up.

I am Her Royal Majesty Queen Romana of the Kingdom of Canada.

Romana Didulo was an immigrant who'd come to Canada from the Philippines at 15 and settled in British Columbia with her extended family.

She started some businesses, which mostly seemed to have failed.

And by the onset of the pandemic, when she just sort of appeared in the online ether, Romana was ready to make her mark.

This is Rachel Browne, a Canadian investigative journalist who wrote about Romana and her movement for The Walrus magazine and later made a podcast about it all for CBC.
