Let me grab the Roman Catechism, and I'll show you what's in that one.

Here's a couple quotes from the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church, paragraph 628.

Is that Bellarmine? Now, that wasn't Bellarmine exactly, but the order that it's placed on was largely founded, including the Baltimore Catechism, followed a kind of a logical order of teaching that built up from who is God, what do we believe about him, to Jesus Christ, now his authority in the church, and so forth.

Over the next sixteen years, Cardinal Bellarmine became a central figure in the Vatican.

He helped resolve divisions within the Church, clarified the Church's position on relevant topics, helped implement the use of the recently published Roman Catechism, or Catechism of Trent, which he had earlier helped to write, communicated with and even rebuked kings and secular rulers, and served in numerous other capacities.

In sixteen sixteen, Cardinal Bellarmine was involved in responding to the controversial teachings of Galileo, whom he considered a friend.

Though the Cardinal did not condemn him, he did deliver the Church's position that since Galileo's conclusions could not be substantiated scientifically, the traditional understanding of Scripture must hold.

After one more conclave, Cardinal Bellarmine fell ill and retreated into retirement.

During these last years of his life, he wrote some beautiful devotional works, The Mind's Ascent to God by the Ladder of Created Things, The Seven Words on the Cross, and On the Art of Dying Well.

His other earlier works included a masterful commentary on the Psalms, the earlier mentioned De Controversis, his contribution to the Roman Catechism, as well as other minor works.

St. Robert Bellarmine was naturally gifted with a brilliant mind.

And, uh, what's funny, uh, uh, those, those same people, who shall remain nameless, uh, will often, uh, latch onto the more traditional or, or older articulations of the faith, such as like the Roman Catechism or the Catechism of Pope St. Pius X or the Baltimore Catechism, and what's funny is this, this idea of baptism of desire is all throughout that tradition.

It's taught in, in the Catechism of Pope St. Pius X. It's c- it's taught in the Baltimore Catechism.

It's taught in the Roman Catechism, which is the Catechism of the Council of Trent.

It's taught in the Council of Trent.

It's taught in St. Thomas Aquinas, right? Uh, and so this, this idea that, um, baptism, the, the effects of baptism, the chief effect of baptism can be supplied in these cases where the administration is unable to be, be given, um, or, or even just, like, extraordinarily, like someone receives this, this great gift of justification prior to their reception of baptism.

And here's the thing, too.

The episode focuses on the mystery of the Incarnation, the eternal Son of God assuming a true human nature in the womb of the Blessed Virgin.

This episode also considers the divine maternity of Our Lady.

Alexander III, for example, in a letter explaining the faith to a Muslim sultan who wanted to convert, explicitly states it was a painless birth.

In the Roman Catechism, the Council of Trent teaches that as well.

And the Fathers teach it, and the Saints, and the Doctors.
