Mr. GreenHOST
29:06
Well, this was one of those films that I had talked about.
Mr. GreenHOST
29:12
This and Rogue Trooper were the two films of the festival that I had earmarked as I needed to watch them because from what I was reading going into it, I really wanted to check out both films.
Andrew YoungHOST
29:27
You had to actually hustle it to get to this one.
Andrew YoungHOST
29:30
You were down the street with only minutes to go.
DaveHOST
95:15
Oh my God, it almost went across my brain just then.
DaveHOST
95:18
Oh, Rogue Trooper, that's it.
DaveHOST
95:20
I'll, I'll go to support Rogue Trooper, um, for sure, 100%.
DaveHOST
95:24
Um, but part of that is my 2000 AD fan card showing, you know? That's the rare example of Dave has a point of principle.
DaveHOST
95:32
You know, he goes to support something.
DaveHOST
95:38
You know, normally it's, uh, Spider-Man.
DaveHOST
95:39
Like, I, you know, that, you know, I wanna see desperately.
DaveHOST
95:42
Rogue Trooper, I'm like, I'm bracing for it not to make much money 'cause that's just what a- always seems to happen.
Grace Barber-PlentieGUEST
30:29
So new films by Leica and Brad Bird, who obviously did like The Incredibles and all of that.
Grace Barber-PlentieGUEST
30:35
So I think, and also we have an amazing film called Rogue Trooper, which is like a totally like independent UK production from Duncan Jones.
Grace Barber-PlentieGUEST
30:42
So I think like, yeah, adult centered animation is like really having a moment this year.
Grace Barber-PlentieGUEST
30:47
I think some years that's not so much the case, but I see that more as a reflection of like how long these films must take to make like-
MattHOST
46:44
What's next? What's another dad movie? Ooh.
MattHOST
46:47
R- R- Rogue Trooper.
Brian WishartGUEST
46:50
Rogue Trooper.
Brian WishartGUEST
46:51
Okay.
MattHOST
46:51
Rogue Trooper.
MattHOST
46:52
I'm gonna include Rogue Trooper in this because it could be a dad movie, right? I mean, milit- I mean, it's a, it's a war.
MattHOST
47:01
It's war.
MattHOST
47:02
It's, it's action.
MichaelHOST
2:00
There have been other characters in 2000 AD who are considered classic characters, but you might not have heard of them because the one who is in a film, his film still hasn't come out yet, that isn't Judge Dredd.
CraigHOST
2:12
We can't be drawn into Rogue Trooper right now.
CraigHOST
2:15
No.
CraigHOST
2:15
So Judge Dredd is a character from pop culture.
Brian WishartHOST
15:58
But, uh, yeah.
Brian WishartHOST
15:59
So Zack, Zack Snyder's Last Photograph, um, that or Rogue Trooper were the worst things I saw at the festival.
Brian WishartHOST
16:05
Um, Duncan Jones' Rogue Trooper.
Brian WishartHOST
16:08
Um, so you saw it as well.
Brian WishartHOST
16:10
Uh, I went to the midnight madness screening of it.
Brian WishartHOST
16:12
I didn't stay for the Q&A 'cause I was so bored during the movie.
Brian WishartHOST
16:15
And so Rogue Trooper's based on...
Brian WishartHOST
16:17
What's it fully based on? Apologies if you hear me typing a lot in this episode 'cause I wanna get the, you know, some details right for the-
Shakyl LambertGUEST
110:00
i'll say it is funny that henry melling the last two roles i hear from him are like unconventional romance films because between like this and then pillion yes yes Shaquille.
Shakyl LambertGUEST
110:11
I'll talk about Rogue Trooper.
Shakyl LambertGUEST
110:14
Another movie, another one of the Midnight Mass movies this year that I didn't like.
Shakyl LambertGUEST
110:18
The new Duncan Jones, you know, from Moon, Source Code, Warcraft, all that stuff.
Shakyl LambertGUEST
111:57
I just probably don't care for Duncan Jones as a filmmaker, I think.
Shakyl LambertGUEST
112:01
He's just a character, a director that just hasn't done anything for me.
Shakyl LambertGUEST
112:05
I should mention that this entire movie is animated in Unreal Engine 5, so as a result, everything looks like a pre-rendered trailer that you'd see on E3 to promote a video game of the same name, which is funny because I only knew Rogue Trooper as a game from PSU and Xbox, but As a result, it's just a big old bunch of bleh.
Shakyl LambertGUEST
112:26
Like the animation's kind of whatever.
Andrew YoungHOST
57:02
Green, what's your pick for best genre film of the fest?
Mr. GreenHOST
57:06
Well, it's no surprise to anybody who knows me that I'm going to find something like this to be my pick, and that was Rogue Trooper.
Mr. GreenHOST
57:15
It was one of the films that I had earmarked, besides Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother, to absolutely see at the festival.
Mr. GreenHOST
57:23
Because I like Duncan Jones as a director, and while I don't know much about Rogue Trooper other than some cursory knowledge from back in the day when it was being published under 2000 AD and whatnot as a comic, I... was excitedly anticipating watching this film and it was not let down at all.
Mr. GreenHOST
57:45
When I sat down to watch it, one of the things that I thought Jones did really well was opening the film with panels directly out of the book and then transitioned into the film itself.
Mr. GreenHOST
57:55
One of the better interpretations of that style, we've seen it in a few other movies, comic book movies before, but I really loved how it worked here seamlessly.
Mr. GreenHOST
58:04
The same thing with the closing credits.
Mr. GreenHOST
58:06
They had a really great, fun system with that.
Brian SalisburyHOST
67:56
Where can people find you on the interwebs?

He then wrote and directed Mute, which is his lowest rated film, even though that's technically a sequel to this.
Rory JoscelyneHOST
31:24
Then he did, I think the next one after that actually is the one that's come out this year, but only in a French film festival, which is, yeah, the next one is that is Rogue Trooper, which is in the 2000 AD comic series, which is where Judge Dredd is from.
Rory JoscelyneHOST
31:41
It's a fully CGI animated movie.
Rory JoscelyneHOST
31:44
It's come out, it's got, it's his highest rated movie currently.
Rory JoscelyneHOST
32:50
Yeah, and then obviously you have
Benton HodgesHOST
32:51
AAA, where it's like multiple publishers.
Benton HodgesHOST
32:57
I think we need to bring that term over for films like... moon where it's like yeah like rogue troopers yeah
Rory JoscelyneHOST
33:03
we're doing 20 million dollar budget and going that's an indie that's not an indie film is it
