Roger Glover

After three albums to begin their career released in just an 18-month window, a change of personnel to revamp the band into a new era into the 1970s decade had brought success and a sound that found its audience.

Original members John Lord, Ian Pace and Richie Blackmore had been joined by bass guitarist Roger Glover and lead vocalist Ian Gillan to create what has since been dubbed the Mark II line-up.

This five-piece had then recorded and released Lord's Love Child, concerto for group and orchestra, as their initial foray out of the new line-up.

Nine months later, the band had released Deep Purple in rock as the first studio album from this revamped lineup, with Richie Blackmore pushing for a hard rock sound over John Lord's more classical leanings from earlier albums.

There is no doubt that the result of Fireball is less hardcore and is more laid back.

The album opens with the fastest song of the collection, the title track Fireball, and the star of the show here is definitely the drumming of Ian Pace, which is just brilliant.

He opens the album again and then just keeps on rolling throughout the opening track, combining nicely with Roger Glover's bass line that set the rhythm of the song.

Gillan's vocals are back on point immediately, not pushing heights, but driving the track along and punctuating on a couple of occasions with that signature scream.

I got a little bit of a tickle too, but I don't know where it's coming from.

But where did you get your famous cold from? Roger Glover.

large and it's amazing and one of the that they've all signed it as i say all the bands i've mentioned have all signed the music land guest book and it's interesting because uh roger glover from deep purple has signed uh well he's actually done quite a few drawings in there because roger's quite a big illustrator so he's done some interesting art drawings which are in there But there's one page which is very, I wouldn't say it's pop art, but it's very technical in terms of the lines and the colouring in.

And that was a whole page done by Freddie.

Freddie's actually drawn a whole page of, in the book and you know when you what we're doing is when we have the exhibition at the cumberland hotel in um september 23rd to the 27th i believe you guys are invited even after the chaos you caused at the last one i know i know

It was a very popular album.

And in rock, they had hired an artist that drew the faces of Richie Blackmore, Ian Gyllen, Ian Pace, Roger Glover, and John Lord instead of the faces of the presidents on Mount Rushmore.

Who are the presidents, by the way, on Mount Rushmore? George Washington? Yep.

Lincoln? Yep.

like the first time was um I went to Egypt, and I was supposed to go from Cairo to South Africa, and I went to Dahab, which is on the coast just below Israel, and got a gig.

I got a gig with Roger Glover's daughter.

Roger Glover is the bass player from Deep Purple.

Oh, yeah.

Weirdly, and this girl who I ended up dating, and we just put this band together because there was no other bands, and it was challenging.

So he's great.

Tanya, the bass player, well, Tanya, I met Tanya on another project and she turned up to replace Roger Glover from Deep Purple, who couldn't do the shows that we were doing with an orchestra.

And she turned up and just nailed it.

And I was just like, man, what are you doing next summer? And she was like, well, I said, do you fancy coming out on tour? So now we've got a rhythm section.

It was absolutely amazing.

Seeing Ian Gillan, Ian Pace with Don Airy, Roger Glover and Simon McBride as well too on the stage with Richie Blackmore.

He had to play Smoke on the Water and it was a really, really nice moment.

But we played from Stormbringer the title track and a good one that was.
