Who knows? But we kind of, yeah, came to love the spot, see all the people that kind of use it and how important it is to the people in the area, whether that's just 'cause they don't like the look of it or whether they like to hang out here.
Sam DyerGUEST
30:16
And there's, there's, there's, there's still people coming in.
Sam DyerGUEST
30:18
Like, that's something completely random, not even related to oil, but they're, they were sending people to R- uh, RGU, Robert Gordon University.
Sam DyerGUEST
30:25
Um, but there's still, it's always been quite, there's lots of people coming in, and obviously with all the investment in the city, the infrastructure getting built, there's obviously contracts, there's people, uh, coming in.
Sam DyerGUEST

So the market's kinda still moving.
Tegan McDougallGUEST

When I left secondary school, my goal in my head was to be a journalist.
Tegan McDougallGUEST
9:18
So I actually studied journalism for two years at RGU already.
Tegan McDougallGUEST
9:22
It was through that course that I kind of fell in love with design because there was a lot of creative modules and through the lecture comments and a lot of my classmates basically telling me well like why are you not doing this and it wasn't the case that I didn't enjoy journalism I did but I just kind of could see myself excelling at more of the creative based modules than the actual writing and theory based ones so I was like oh this is interesting so I met a former well a graduate a job I was at, just a part-time job and he was telling me all about communication design and greys and he saw some of my work because I did freelance, well I say freelance but it was basically just I was on social media posting football graphics and weird kit designs and things and People were just kind of getting back to me being like, can we do something? This would be really fun.
Tegan McDougallGUEST
10:27
So it was really a weird way of getting into it.
James CookGUEST
20:07

James CookGUEST

But to come all the way back to your point about jobs, Robert Gordon University, which assesses these things, there's an expert there called Professor Paul DeLeo, who I think you've spoken to before, I've spoken to before.
James CookGUEST
20:24
He says that he reckons there'll be about 1,600 offshore job losses every year for the coming decade.
James CookGUEST
20:30
And not nearly that amount is being created in renewables.
Rosie McKeanHOST

Alex BellHOST
42:09
yeah just like pineapple and art in 2017 there were two students at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen who bought a pineapple from a supermarket and walked into an art exhibition in Aberdeen and just put the pineapple kind of like in a room and it was there for four days because people thought it was part of the exhibition I loved it so much
Rosie McKeanHOST
42:26

Rosie McKeanHOST

So RGU is kind of the university that I selected there.
Kelly SmithGUEST

And I guess waste and decommissioning translated really well because it's that analytical background that evidence-led thinking that translates really well so that's how like I kind of got into kind of the science field and then I just applied for a job with ASCO god I think maybe about 12 years ago and I've never left I started at the boots, boots on the ground, that really kind of technical thinking, and it evolved.
Kelly SmithGUEST
3:00
I've worked my way up, and now I'm leading the department.
