That Chinese organized crime dimension, which also increasingly involves the use of Chinese institutions to launder money from Mexican and other narco-traffickers.

That continues to be a very real problem in the region, part of the greater criminal economy that prejudices and corrupts the governments across the region.

He's traveling in the Americas.

He's in Lima, Peru.

And indeed, the left is sufficiently fragmented that there are a number who recognize that he tried to do something anti-democratic and think that he should stay in jail.

So it's not clear whether anybody's getting out of jail anytime soon, but we'll see what happens as we have an escalation of the political crisis in October and November.

He is in Lima, Peru, reporting on the new government, which is oddly familiar how many times Kiko Fujimura has run for the office, and now she is president.

And I'm very, very privileged to go to Lima, Peru, immediately for the making of the John Batza show.

about a country that's vital for the success of all South America, but that has gone through a lot of turmoil, at least since... my experience since the pandemic earlier this decade, but perhaps much longer than that, which is why I welcome the professor to give me the backstory when he's in Lima.

He's traveling in the Americas.

He said the deal would increase oil supplies and lower gas prices for Americans.

Now Evan Ellis, a military strategist and former Latin America policy advisor to the U.S. State Department, said the deal is expected to strengthen the U.S. position in global oil markets.

He told us that America's control of 65 billion barrels of recoverable oil would significantly impact the U.S. position in international petroleum markets and access to that oil at cost.

In addition, it's a big win for U.S. refiners, particularly those in Houston, which are accustomed to processing high-sulfur, heavy Venezuelan oil.

It's different around the world.

I welcome Professor Evan Ellis of the U.S. Army War College Strategic Studies Institute because he is watching and listening to the Americas as they try to anticipate what comes next with El Nino, Super El Nino, Unprecedented El Nino.

I mention all of this also because we have immediately right now, there are parts of America that are experiencing drought.

There are parts of America where they're having rain.

But the risk is that when you have this group of governments that are pro-U.S., willing to work with us, coming into power, if those governments can't deliver for their people and can't show that the cooperation with the U.S. yields tangible results in four or five-year time, depending on the electoral cycle, we could be talking about a group of unprecedented size of anti-U.S. governments.

And so that is the risk.
