Robert E. Lubow

There was another company, a competitor to Animal Behavior Services, called Behavior Systems, I believe.

The principal there was... a professor at Tel Aviv University named Robert Lubow, who... basically was trying to train dogs to act like Native American trackers.

The idea being that counterinsurgency required a different type of response because technology can get you to a point, but in places like Vietnam, for example, we found technology does not automatically win a war because people will use different types of tactics, like guerrilla tactics, to get around the technological problems.

So because a lot of the North Vietnamese soldiers moved like what the military was calling phantoms, how do you catch a ghost? How do you sense a ghost? How do you spot one? They decided to use things like scent.

I mean, if you look at like the weird Soviet dog experiments, the Demikhovs and, you know, stuff like this.

But surely this is all happening all over the place, purely based on the fact that everyone seems to be in an arms race to be, you know, the most biggest, baddest comic book villain right now.

Yeah, so Robert Lubow, the professor at Tel Aviv University that I mentioned earlier, after working for the Department of Defense, he worked for Israel's Ministry of Defense by proposing similar animal and bird-based programs.

Today, Israel makes extensive use of military attack dogs, hyper-aggressive, that are bred for that purpose.
