And boy, wasn't it a long road to healing after so much trauma.

Elishaba is the oldest of 15 children, born to Papa Pilgrim, a monster in disguise.

She's the author of Out of the Wilderness.

This is the second half of her story, and we pick up right where we left off, with Elishaba running after her father's snow machine, desperate for one last goodbye.

Let's get to work.

For years, the world knew her father only as Papa Pilgrim, the patriarch, the religious man who led his family deep into the Alaska wilderness, away from roads, from neighbors, from anyone who might ask questions.

What the world didn't know was what was happening inside that family compound, behind the isolation, the religious facade, the musical instruments, and the control.

Alicia Bedorkson is the oldest of 15 children, born into that family and the author of Out of the Wilderness.

How you were isolated and far away from everyone and anyone and how that all happened put you in even more danger with that extreme isolation.

You kind of moved a couple of times and...

I read something also about your father who was the perpetrator and abuser, but he was called Papa Pilgrim, correct?

Correct.
