Robert A. Lewis

staggering moment, Tanimoto was introduced to Captain Robert Lewis.

Lewis was the co-pilot of the Enola Gay, the B-29 aircraft which had dropped the atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima.

Of course, my father doesn't know anything about this.

I've never seen him.

But he's here tonight to clasp your hand in friendship.

Captain Robert Lewis, United States Air Force, who along with Paul Tibbetts piloted the plane from which the first atomic power was dropped over Hiroshima.

You know, how awkward could this possibly have been for him? And I have to say how dignified he was and how he managed in this extraordinarily difficult and public situation to sort of keep his cool.
