But you know, the other thing I, I think about when I look at these records and the upcoming schedules, the two weeks in April that got Rob Thompson fired, those two weeks where you faced Braves, Cubs, Braves, Cubs, and the Phillies went, uh, what did they go, 2-11 in those 13 games.

Those games got Rob Thompson fired, and they also got both of those teams the tiebreaker over the Phillies in the NL East-

That's crazy

... and in the wild card standings.

Obviously, it's his job depending on how far they go, too.

But again, Dombrowski, he wasn't the first choice, and that's an awkward elephant in the room, that they offered Joey Cora, Dave Dombrowski offered Alex Cora, not Joey Cora, Alex Cora the job between getting fired from the Red Sox and the Phillies letting Topper go, letting, letting Rob Thompson go.

So it's awkward, but he's a pro.

Dombrowski's a pro.

But, uh, Rob Thompson, who I was never crazy about as a manager, but they won a pennant with him and became a playoff team regularly, so it's tough to boot a guy out.

But he got booted out pretty early because that's how, you know, that's how Dombrowski does business.

And, um, Don Mattingly, who my father always criticized when he was a manager, uh, Don Mattingly is now 72 and 44 as the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Like, if it was me and I'm writing that lineup card today, he's getting the ball.

But again, there's a lot of different strategies that go into it.

What's really intriguing about this, and you brought up earlier in the show, the Don Mattingly takeover for Rob Thompson.

Rob Thompson was a guy that very much rewarded The veterans, the guys who had been here longest.

Yeah.

And Robbie Thompson is there and a bunch of other young guys.

And so they had the, you know, what is the slogan now? This will be over soon.

Sid pitched five shutout innings, but the Giants tied the game against him in the sixth.

Dan Gladden walked and Robbie Thompson hit an RBI triple, scoring Gladden.

Then Candy Maldonado hit an RBI single, scoring Thompson, and we were knotted at two.

Sid kept going after that, and he probably could have gone deeper, but Davey opted to pinch hit for him in the seventh.

Well, the Mets and Giants played again on Tuesday, September 2nd, and the pitchers were a pair of aces who each had 13 wins on the season, Dwight Gooden and Mike Krukow.

This one was scoreless through three, and Doc no-hit the Giants for the first three as well.

But in the top of the fourth, Gooden allowed a single to Robbie Thompson and an RBI triple to Candy Maldonado that scored the game's first run.

Then the Giants busted it open against him in the sixth when Maldonado doubled.

Who knows how things could have been if they had done it around the time.

The Phillies also fired Rob Thompson, you know, maybe the Mets are in a different position right now, but you know, you can't rewrite the past anymore, but I just hope that they can take from that experience and learn from it.

But what I hope is that if he does end up going back to the front office and does become a general manager is that that influence is still being exuded over the team.

Rob Thompson also took them to a World Series.

Yeah.

The year I believe that Rob Thompson took them to the World Series was the same year they also fired Joe Girardi.

So this is the second time that the Philadelphia Phillies have been inspired or motivated by firing the manager.

So, like, I... that's why I, I, I, uh, I don't know if you can honestly ever say that does, what does firing a manager or coach ever do.
