Yeah.

You told me a story recently about, well, I've heard some of these stories a couple times.

They change every time.

I was wondering.

Interesting.

Actually, they don't change much.

And some of these stories I have heard.

Sure.

Now, did you always want to have an involvement in the game after your playing days? Was coaching something you thought about straight after you were playing?

Yeah, I think, you know, some players will say once they finish playing, I'm sort of moving on.

But I certainly had ambition to want to coach.

And then when I returned from Richmond to finish my days with Perth and set out Ian first and then Mel Brown.

And...

And then West Coast formed, played, signed a two-year contract, Regan, but I only played one because I thought I'd had enough.

And then Melbourne said, it's time for you to coach.

Rob, how have you seen it change over the years? Do you sort of have to be pretty adaptable these days as a coach and also a player?

Mm.

But it's mostly granddaddy telling stories to us on Christmas Eve.

And I think we were down in the basement where he, where he, we'd set him up in the basement that time.

And, uh, and you got your hands on that recording.

Yeah, the TVA.

As, as a kid, you know, a grandkid, I've asked Dad several times over the years about what it was like, and my early questions were, "Hey, what, what was it like during the Depression?" And then he would have to remind me, "Hey, I was born in '33.

I didn't know those early years.

I was just a little kid."

Who could complain?" So what were your impressions of the film, all three of you? What stood out?

So I, I think that is, uh, perhaps a little un- unfair, uh, to Nolan, and I, I wanna tie this back to what, um, Eric said about the fact that Odysseus doesn't change, right? And Jonathan suggesting this would be very difficult even for a novelistic adaptation, much less a three-hour movie.

Um, there's a sense I think you get from the ancient Greek poets that the gods are changeling.

Um, and I think that's very difficult to-- for a, for a, you know, modern Christian or post-Christian secular audience to sort of wrap their heads around changeling gods, right? So, so I'd agree with Eric that I think Odysseus does not change in the course of the Odyssey.

In fact, I, you know, I think he discovers nature in the middle of the Odyssey, uh, the, the nature and name of Moly, the, the, the, the herb that, that Hermes gives him to escape Circe.

So he discovers that there's some knowledge of nature that makes him unchanging.

That, of course, is sort of Leo Strauss' interpretation of, of the Odyssey.

Right.

that the making of the club, Rob? Do you reckon like those sort of adversity they had to deal with right from the start, not being able to train anywhere? I think 87 was a

clear indication for me because for what we had to go through, and as we've mentioned before, to win that amount of games.

Set the scene.

Now, obviously, you have to go backwards sometimes before you go forwards, and we didn't go backwards.

Under Todd in 88, it was pretty good.

You know, they lost that final out at Waverley.

So from then on, you know, we had the side.
