He had a little bit of a facial stubble, a little bit of a beard, his short hair growing long.

Nick Reiner, why did the prosecutors take the death penalty off the table? Nick Reiner is accused of killing his parents, legendary filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner, inside their Brentwood, California home.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hockman announced on September 15th that prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against Nick Reiner.

Reiner still faces two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, including multiple murders and lying in wait.

That was Nick Reiner's attorney speaking back in court in February when he pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder.

The charges were enhanced, though, after a grand jury indictment was unsealed in August where he pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder with a special circumstance, allegations of multiple murders and murder of lying in wait.

He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife, in the killings of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michelle Singer Reiner.

We spoke with KTLA legal analyst Allison Treasel shortly after that grand jury indictment was unsealed.

He said he spoke with the Reiner family and considered mitigating and aggravating factors in the case.

Reiner is accused of killing his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michelle Reiner, in December.

Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty and faces life in prison without parole if convicted.

That was a bummer all over again.

Did you pick up on the reference in The Bear? I did.

Yeah, yeah, the last episode when, you know, because I thought it was, I thought they handled it so beautifully that Rob Reiner's character was still present via phone calls.

And then that last bit where he says, obviously, can I ask a favour? And he says, as you wish.

And it was like,

I'm going, no.

And, you know, Rob Reiner, his politics notwithstanding, was part of a loving family.

Carl Reiner, family was very important to them, and they were very close.

And the other children, of course, turned out all right.

Anyway, Jamie Lee Curtis gets up there and she's blathering on and on and on.

There are no tears for anybody until we get to Rob Reiner.

And she is fake crying.
