I got to see Jennifer Lee, who was... directing the Kung Fu Panda films I got to see Gore Verbinski who was doing sorry not Gore Verbinski at the time it was um I wasn't gonna fact check you but no but it was Gore is the director of the first three pirate movies and the fourth one was directed by Rob Marshall so Rob Marshall was coming in okay and talking to Hans and my job was to make Hans Zimmer his coffee yeah uh which you were literally like the head intern then yeah I delivered coffee into his office it's like pirate skulls and like This looks like you're in Pirates of the Caribbean, 100% serious.

Was he cool? He's the coolest guy in the world.

And I know I must have seen this movie before that because I was using this movie as a club to beat Rob Marshall with.

All right.

Well, this was the fourth of Bob Fosse's five directorial feature film efforts.

So I'm glad we saved it for this.

I remember

when nine came out and it was like, they're making a, you know, my old nemesis, Rob Marshall.

Yes.

Yeah.

Uh, this one directed by Rob Marshall.

So Gore Verbinski, he is gone.

He did the trilogy.

Peace, I'm outta here.

My name is Grace, and I'm joined as always by my co-host, Scott.

Grace, I was going to think of some sort of quippy, funny thing to say, but it's a sad occasion for us today.

He was just, he'd, and the, but the vision of that came from John Meyer and I were locked in a room.

I got the job on the same day he got the job, and Rob Marshall wasn't yet in Los Angeles.

Mm-hmm.

He was in New York.

And John Meyer and I went in there, and we started looking through these books together and tagging pages with Post-Its, and they went and made color Xeroxes.

It was like a four-day event with him in, in there looking at this, dreaming of the visual aspects of this.

And when John, when Rob Marshall got to town that week, we brought him this stack of color Xeroxes that, uh, we had found, and they were in story order in terms of the book.

And so that was the starting place for, for Rob to bring his incredible sense of the visual to this, along with Dion Beebe, who he had already chosen.
