For a lot of guys that came

from America, like Rob Machado, Taylor Knox, Dino actually went back on tour, I think, qualified and went back onto the CT at some point from

that.

Whereupon he won in 1990.

Like I opened up that door for backdoor, but she opened up that avenue, you know, for pipeline because she was the one that found that.

the the Jerry Lopez nicer ride let's say in Rob Machado right like Keala would always go on the gnarliest waves and we'd see her wipe out and she just did crazy stuff and she got really good ones but like Moana consistently was catching and and knifing in on the the open waves and And probably inspired by Derek too, because he was, you know, especially in age, you're like, I don't want to have any part of the ones that are consequential.

I want to go on the ones that are nice and open.

You know, like I don't really take off too often on waves that I'm like, well, it's kind of a risk for reward.

Um, uh, Sherman who he, for anyone who knows like surfskate snow photography history, which may be a small group.

Um, he did, Sherm did like the, the iconic, um, photo, black and white photo of the momentum generation from the, the, like early days of Kelly Slater, Rob Machado and the guys when they were young.

So there's this iconic black and white photo of those guys.

And then there's one he did like 20 years later that it's the same guys.

He's a, he's a, you know, he's obviously the star of the surf world, and to have him at the show is incredible, and, uh, we're super stoked.

On Saturday, I was milling about, I think I came back in from somewhere, and there was this huge line I'm like, "Why is there a line?" Like, I've seen, you know, Rob Machado walking around, Pete Mel walking around, and like there's no line.

You just kinda like socialize with them or take a picture with them if you want or whatever.

Why is there a line? And so I look all the way to the beginning of the line, Gerry Lopez standing there at the Patagonia booth, [laughs] and people just queue up.

And I think, yeah, Kelly, maybe Peter prompted him, but I could see Kelly obviously, uh, has a lot of respect and mutual appreciation for Mo- Maurice, and so I could see him wanting to be there to support Maurice as well.

Um, but yeah, what an honor to have him help with the judging.

And of course, I mean, I mentioned Rob Machado and Gerry Lopez, but Joel Tudor swung by, was checking out the boards.

Um, you know, Cliff Kapono, gr- uh, Dane Gudauskas, uh, Peter Mel was there all weekend long.

I'm excited.

You go from Rob Machado's Asahi company from little kids', kids' sweat in Korea- ... to Laird Hamilton's cream that I put on my lips from the whales thing-

... to I guess Jack Johnson's, like, hologram, 'cause there's no way he went to your fucking, uh-

So I'm gonna let them pick the shapers once again.

But surfer, all-time pick would be Rob Machado.

Yeah, he's at the top of my list too.

If you wanna go young and new, Tosh Tudor would be interesting.

He was m- he was, uh, twin finning and all that vibes.

I, I told you, um, Rob handed me a twin fin-

It looks like Rob Machado's fingernails.

Alan Van Gysen, they had some really big names involved in this.

Like Rob Machado was one of the producers.

Alan Van Gysen was one of the guys on the ground.

Twiggy.

I know you get a lot of references like that, but he's Mr. Zen himself.

He's one of our favorite surfers, Rob Machado.
