Road to Avonlea

This moves us into what the material incredibly vividly describes as colonizing a fictional parish.

And we see this manifest in the show Road to Avonlea, which ran from nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety six.

Such a huge show.

I want to linger on this phrase, colonizing a fictional parish.

It represents a massive evolution in how a network uses a book.

With the nineteen eighty five miniseries, they were still fundamentally trying to film a specific novel, even if they changed the temperature.

But with Road to Avonlea, they stopped adapting novels and started mining an author's raw materials to build their own industrial town.

Sullivan looked at Montgomery's wider minor works, right? Books like The Story Girl, The Golden Road, uh, and the short story collections.

And she was also in the Liberty Street pilot movie X-Rated.

And just about every great Canadian TV show she's been in at some point, Danger Bay, Maniac Mansion, Street Legal, Ready or Not, Road to Avonlea, The Edison Twins, Seeing Things.

Holy shit.

She's been in the Anne of Green Gables miniseries.

I had a copy of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

And then I would get all the Road to Avonlea videos from the library.

And I would just watch them on repeat.

And those were all that I had.
