River's Edge

Again, the new record's called Marrow Deep.

And guys, I have to ask, who amongst you is the River's Edge fan? I'm hearing Feck, Dennis Hopper ahead of the second song.

What's the connection?

Oh, okay.

River's Edge, let's see.

When I was maybe 13 or 14, my dad gave me a VHS tape that he had taped, and it had River's Edge and Blue Velvet on it.

And he gave me that, and then...

Maybe a couple years later, or a year and a half later, something like that, me and my best friend Jay Feniger, we took some acid and had a lot of fun.

right right so they they they moved on from him um and then they signed they signed up alex cox um who directed again yeah repo man and said nancy uh but then he changed his mind after watching a screening of uh the exorcist 2 the heretic and was like oh i'm not doing a sequel no um oh okay yeah he was like no thank you i'm not doing the sequel to someone else's movie Then they went to Tim Hunter, who was the director of River's Edge, starring Crispin Glover and Keanu Reeves.

I've never seen

that.

And then he's recording a podcast and it turns out that a copy of him wrote a script called

The River's Edge.

That's how he discovered time travel was real.

When he's having like flip outs.

It's just like Crispin Glover and River's Edge.

It's very crisp.

Yeah.

Now, for those who don't know, Stand By Me does bear a certain resemblance to another very difficult and challenging film, more so, way more so than Stand By Me, but another movie released right around the same time in 1986.

Uh, I don't remember the name of the filmmaker, but the movie is called River's Edge, and it was with Dennis Hopper, uh, who gave three great performances in '86.

Man, where was his-- Forget Best Act, uh, Supporting Actor nomination.

Where was his Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Blue Velvet? My gosh.

Uh, many people, that's their favorite sports movie.

Should have been nominated and won for Blue Velvet.

He was nominated for Hoosiers, but he's also great in this movie called River's Edge.

Now, the similarity with Stand By Me was an accident because River's Edge is a film, it was on the, like, the blacklist of greatest unproduced screenplays for years.

But I remember there was, like, a, a little bit of a sordid history behind the scenes 'cause the director, who's, like, a notable good director.

He did River's Edge, got, uh, w- his name's like Tim something, right?

His name is Tim Hunter, and he's done, like, uh, he's directed in lots of TV, Breaking Bad-

Yeah, Nightbreed's a great movie.

And then he was in The River's Edge.

I love River's Edge a lot.

It's really, really good.
