You can start whatever you want.

I played Scott Pilgrim EX, and that is a terrible title for a Scott Pilgrim game where it's a beat-em-up that's very much inspired by River City Ransom.

Why? Because there was already a River City Ransom-inspired Scott Pilgrim game, and EX makes it look like it's the same game, but better.
