Vic RubleHOST

And then when you think of future movies that this may have been an inspiration for, thinking some of the more not necessarily Private Ryan, which the opening sequence I think has definitely had... uh echoes in private ryan but like um i was thinking of like the bridge too far or even the movie midway where they really just sort of go through the actual history of it and then portray it that way this was much more like you said it was an unnamed island in the pacific they don't really try to play with history much here i think that really speaks to what they were trying to do with the human interest aspect of the

story but
Vic RubleHOST

yeah four out of five i think especially for the time period i think ahead of a time like nancy said it was much grittier than i had expected it to be especially for the time period as well um you know rip torn uh cusses a bunch which i don't think was common for film back then uh but they tried to portray a level of realism that i definitely appreciated and i think the way that they were doing the flashback stuff and the interiority like a lot of voiceover work uh was going on here so i think they took some big swings they just didn't they didn't necessarily connect for me for to give it anything higher than a four all

Madonna did, basically.
KatHOST
19:29

KipHOST
19:30

KipHOST
19:33
No, Rip Torn and Larry Sanders show when the network executives come in and want to downsize it, which we're seeing right now in real life, right? Yeah.
KipHOST
19:44
But there was a woman executive.

Mr. Mutant LarryHOST

John GrizzlyHOST

ZachHOST
24:38
He looked a bit like Rip Torn at one point.
ZachHOST

He apparently asked to have his prosthetics done to look like John Carpenter.

Blake HowardHOST

I
Sean BurnsGUEST
21:28
wish Eleanor had spent two more days just filming Rip Torn and Asia Argento together, because that's the kind of chemistry you cannot...
Sean BurnsGUEST
21:38
Has there ever been a human being delighted by another person as Rip Torn is with Asia Argento?
Blake HowardHOST
21:45
When there's a moment in the film where it's before you see Rip, before you properly see Rip, when you just see a director's chair, you know, those foldable wooden chairs with the material, and you see his name, and I'm like, oh, fuck, I haven't even seen Rip yet.
Blake HowardHOST
22:00
I was just so excited.
Blake HowardHOST
22:04
It was like a cut scene at the end of a Marvel movie for a comic book nerd.
Blake HowardHOST
22:07
I was so excited.

Is this like turning into a dodgeball episode right now? Who's your favorite character in that movie, by the way? Rip Torn is mine.
TravisHOST
28:01
I love the fact that he was crushed by 3,000 pounds of iron.
TravisHOST

The other guy who was the guy with the goggles, the glasses, I saw him on a podcast and he was talking about how Rip Torn wasn't plain drunk.
