Away Game: Courtside Live at Cannes!
K
7:47KaylaGUEST
Well, actually, I wanna start with just so everyone knows your background.
K
7:50KaylaGUEST
So come from Angel City FC, um, and then also spent time at Riot Games, so you have this really deep understanding of fandom that's really inter- at that intersection of tech, but also the entertainment space, which I think we really see in the Athlos product.
K
8:04KaylaGUEST
When you're actually selling to sponsors and really thinking about the commercial viability of Athlos, can you talk to how it's different in this just, like, prime time entertainment spectacle, and it's really, like, a one-time kind of event as opposed to, for many of us in the room and everyone else here, it's, it's a full season.
K
8:22KaylaGUEST
There's, like, that level of frequency for fans and for sponsors.

Riftbound Has a Sharking Problem. Playing for the Clock ISN'T It.
B
36:28BlevinsHOST
Oh, one last little thing that we can leave a little teaser on because I'm sure that we'll have more to talk about in coming weeks because we've just got little snippets here, but...
B
36:37BlevinsHOST
We're starting to get cast, and this is something I'm not personally super familiar with, but everyone online has been going crazy about little snippets around Riot of the Riot music genre coming up.
B
36:53BlevinsHOST
The, what is it, Heartsteel? There's
C
36:56CasanovaHOST
Heartsteel, there's KDA, there's True Damage, there's Pentakill.
B
39:06BlevinsHOST
Um, and he did allude at some, um, connections with the, the riot music verse or, or whatever it makes sense in that, uh, in that interview.
B
39:15BlevinsHOST
I mean, Again, we're not really jumping too far to make that connection there.
B
39:21BlevinsHOST
But yeah, let us know what's your favorite Riot music group, and are you excited about any of them potentially coming to Riftbound in... uh radiance but uh cast nice little uh quick and clean just like the riff bound we're gonna be playing here nice and quick nice and clean here because we're we're just good at the game don't need don't need any extra okay i'm not but uh we don't need anything extra here um for this uh podcast and we don't need anything extra for our riff bound games but that is gonna be it for this one and a cast for Casanova for the entire Turnip Sideways crew.
B
40:00BlevinsHOST
I've been Blevins.
Mox Diamond Hands Forever | Brainstorm Brewery #717 | Magic Finance
L
21:08LizHOST
Yeah.
L
21:09LizHOST
Every single time Riftbound gets mentioned during another Riot property, the game grows.
L
21:15LizHOST
If I had to guess, I'd say less than 10% of League fans have actually heard of and engaged with Riftbound already.
L
21:22LizHOST
Like, maybe.
L
25:23LizHOST
Whereas Riftbound has, I think, a lot more going for it from the more abstracted from the actual gameplay things.
L
25:31LizHOST
But if you're someone who doesn't have any resonance with League of Legends, it is just another flesh and blood situation.
L
25:35LizHOST
But the difference is, flesh and blood money is not Riot money.
L
25:41LizHOST
And the amount they can support their organized play is vastly different.
Wasianiverson Can't Stop Winning | TPC Riftbeast Cup Review | The Rolldown | S18E4
G
8:32GanglyHOST
Or maybe I made money on the event.
G
8:35GanglyHOST
There's just a lot of things that, of course, that should not be the primary goal on Riot's end, but I would like for them to create some sort of item that has a collectible value for TFT.
G
8:47GanglyHOST
We don't really have anything like that.
C
8:50CLEHOST
Not really.
57 MINS LATER
C
66:01CLEHOST
But, like, we've got to have something else, right? Like, I don't know what else to do because 4N should be able to go live his life and not, you know, have the whole story go away.
G
66:15GanglyHOST
Well, I mean, the problem is, like, it's...
G
66:19GanglyHOST
One, it's extremely expensive for Riot to produce their own product, right? Like if they were to cover every TPC, you are talking about a six-figure investment on the year.
G
66:28GanglyHOST
Even with a skeleton crew, smallest crew they could possibly do is probably still a six-figure investment for just Americas.
League Rundown - Episode 624: Sweep City
K
12:20KangasHOST
He is suspended for his next match.
K
12:22KangasHOST
That is what Riot Games has ruled.
K
12:24KangasHOST
And that next match is a playoffs match.
K
12:27KangasHOST
That is tough that he will not be able to play in the next playoffs match.
6 MINS LATER
M
18:51MizellPLGUEST
Biggest caveat here is we have got an official word that it will be carried out by co-streamers only.
M
18:57MizellPLGUEST
There will be a Chinese broadcast, I guess, but Riot has resigned to doing all these tournaments non-officially with co-streamers.
M
19:05MizellPLGUEST
And it kind of highlights a little bit of the fact that it's in combination with Riot Games, but this is kind of what, if you remember that update to the terms of how people can use League of Legends a while back, this is one of those effects where there's a lot more organizers that are getting opened up to be able to put on tournaments.
M
19:29MizellPLGUEST
And so these are one of them.

I'm So Happy Sony Doesn't Want Any Money
R
96:37Rocky HardyHOST
You know what I mean? Like, I feel like...
R
96:42Rocky HardyHOST
blizzard made their like heartstone auto chess in hopes that you wouldn't go try out the real auto chess you know what i mean they they wanted you to you know you get like these are already familiar characters you don't have to learn a whole new board but like they don't have to do it that well they just had to do it enough that it looks like auto chess but not well enough that it keeps you from playing the game that they wanted you to play you know what i mean and like i think It was an unlikely fit for Riot Games because most of their games that they had at the time, the ones that stick out to me are League of Legends and Summoner Rift and, like, ARAM and Valorant were mechanically intensive.
R
97:26Rocky HardyHOST
While this one is less so.
R
97:28Rocky HardyHOST
I do think it's twitchy in its own way, but, like, I don't think it's as, like, mechanically, like... dense on a physical side, but still had a strategic element that you could really dive into.

A

They call themselves Black Licorice for this exact reason.
A
22:11Anthony Westerfield KondeatiGUEST
right or even a sub segment of the segment right and they own it riot are phenomenal at owning a hundred percent of ten people everybody else is just trying to own ten percent of a hundred people and and i i love that about riot it's just that none of their games i'm just not a player for any of their games unfortunately but if they did make for example a tactical shooter They could possibly be my dream company.
A
22:41Anthony Westerfield KondeatiGUEST
I know that they service their players with individual games very well.
The Games Industry Reset: Where the Jobs Are | Amir Satvat
G
7:39Gengis Ale PennoHOST
Like it's this idea that like we're looking for these growth opportunities.
G
7:42Gengis Ale PennoHOST
A lot of people maybe conceptually think, oh, I need to get into an Activision Blizzard or I need to get into a Riot.
G
7:48Gengis Ale PennoHOST
But kind of the industry is kind of changing the sense that there's less jobs there and there are new opportunities coming around where even though the market may seem doom and gloom, there's a reset happening that may present more opportunity.
G
7:59Gengis Ale PennoHOST
Or how do you see it like in terms of this reset?
A
8:46Amir SatvatGUEST
What I'm always, and I mean fighting with in a kind of funny way, I'm always fighting with the community to get people off of the top 50.
A
