Rio Rico

Before we go, a few more stories you should know about.

A 54-year-old Rio Rico man accused of confronting a bus carrying Hermosa Mine employees with a rifle is facing nine felony charges.

David Eric Miller was arraigned October 12th in a Nogales courtroom on four aggravated assault charges and five disorderly conduct charges involving nine alleged victims.

The incident reportedly happened around 4.30 in the morning on September 11th along Harshaw Road near Patagonia as the employees traveled to the South 32 Hermosa mine.

51-year-old Jose Silva was convicted of negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

Prosecutors said 30-year-old Ashley Cervantes of Rio Rico had asked Silva for a ride in June of last year.

After stopping at two restaurants where both consumed alcohol, they traveled south on Interstate 19, where Cervantes fell from the motorcycle and was subsequently struck by multiple vehicles.

During sentencing Monday, the judge cited the harm to Cervantes' family, Silva's efforts to conceal the crime, and his criminal history.
