Rio Mesa High School

We'll talk about that in a minute.

My game this week was Rio Mesa picking up a 51-13 win over Wainini.

Santa Paula gets the 41-6 win over Channel Islands.

Pacifica beats new Oxnard foe Del Sol 52-6.

I mean, for as good as some of those offensive talents and a new transfer quarterback under Cam Rising looks, it feels like the area of play that puts Newbury Park still solidly in the Marmani League conversation is their defense, and that's a cool thing.

Um, yeah.

So, uh, my game was, was this, uh, Rio Mesa, uh, victory 51 to 14 over Wainimi, a fun all Oxnard, um, you know, uh, week zero season opener, um, and a rematch between, uh, two, you know, coaches who were on the same staff back at, at Rio Mesa, you know, Jim Bittner, um, with Alex Morphin on his staff for a few years before, uh, Morphin goes, goes over to Wainimi and takes that head coaching job there.

So, um, Cool, a brotherly rivalry as they both described it unprompted in interviews after this game.

Um, Doug Todd, the old Mt. SAC coach, uh, is, is a meet official.

All kinds of Southern California people in there, so it's, it's really fun to see.

[laughs] Yeah.

Uh, Sterling did a great job.

I, I got to call his very first high school race last year when they did a, a, a two mile pole vault at Rio Mesa- I think he ran, like, 9:27 then.

Mm-hmm.

I can't wait to, uh, get out there and cover, uh, the first football game of the season.

I have very fond memories of Rio Mesa versus Moorpark last year was my first game.

Um, super fun, in my backyard.

Uh, and yeah, it was such a great-

I have a really nice base right out [laughs]...

No, they played over at Rio Mesa, which is surprisingly close to me.

Um, so it was a nice little hop, skip, and a jump over there.
