Ringaskiddy

It serves as a back road from the back of Carradine into the back of Douglas.

It serves Ballygarvin and Ringaskiddy in the airport.

People use it to effectively avoid Carrathill.

I know plenty of people that don't ever drive up Carrathill.

We have an awful habit of doing stuff piecemeal.

Yeah, and I accept that.

And look, it's deeply frustrating for the many residents that I engage with on a daily basis in Carrigline, and I know from the wider area of Ringaskiddy, Ballygarvin and Douglas, it is very frustrating that it does feel that ballon ray grass has been neglected, that this roundabout is just on the long finger for the last three decades.

And I can't give a definitive answer to you.

And yeah, we were really starting to see employment take off, particularly in the Cork region.

So in the very south of Ireland, there's an area called Ringaskiddy where we have a lot of sort of the big pharma players would have been employers there for a while.

So from there, I went to study biological and chemical sciences at University College Cork.

And that was really a pure science degree.

And Millipore obviously provides a lot of devices and products to people working in the science fields or in the pharmaceutical area.

So I, you know, I worked with them for a bit and then I decided to go back into the lab work, into QC, just to use my science degree and spend some time there in the microbiology lab as an analyst and then a senior analyst in the lab.

So I spent a couple of years with Millipore and it was at that time that CentiCorps were building a facility in Ringaskiddy.

And Sentecor had a sister location in the Netherlands, but this was a monoclonal antibody manufacturer who then had been subsequently acquired by Johnson & Johnson as part of the Janssen companies.

Now, the Cairgilline Court Hotel, because it's attached to that line, it had to close, which puts a huge strain on the hotel and staff and the residents that are using the hotel.

And I suppose not only that, but right around Cairgilline that week, we had breaks in Lisburn, St. Philomena's Place, the Fernie Road, and we also had significant breaks in Ringaskiddy and Crosshaven.

I mean, you've got the likes of Eli Lilly in Kinsale.

You've the likes of Pfizer, uh, in Ringaskiddy.

So I think people get a little bit of confused, and as soon as they hear the name of one of these big companies, they straightaway say, "Oh, sure, that must be made in, uh, Cork." So they don't have a manufacturing plant.

But it doesn't make a difference where this particular drug is made.
