In Deverelli, Violet notices it on Mira's arm.

Mira asks, rotating a bead bracelet, what looks like black tourmaline on her wrists, and watching Ridoc and Garrick build a fire as Dain constructs a cooking spit with Marin in Arrc camp.

I admit softly, my eye catching on the bracelet, something about the knot work holding the metallic bead tickles the back of my brain, and I swear I can smell parchment for the smallest of seconds before I look away.

And what does Brennan say his dad smells like? Parchment.

Mira says whatever signet is, she will use to protect the one she loves, and then we can continue down the line with all the rest of the POVs.

But the reason I knew the signet line was bullshit is because when they meet the Irid's on the aisle, they say, "It's gifted you...

You gifted your rider ice, and you armed yours with lightning." And Ridoc says, "That's not how signets work." And in Fourth Wing, when Vi stopped time, Xaden gets pissy and says, "What the hell kind of powers are you channeling to her, to Tarin?" And Tarin says, "None of your business what I choose or do not choose to channel towards my rider." Dragons have a say what signet they gift their rider.

Of course, when they say it comes from the person's need, that can be true, but it's also true that they're intentional with who they bond with, what familial line, and what they want to give them.

Like maybe Ridoc and his dragon might be the two that you might say, "Ooh, they maybe are a little bit, you know, yin and yang." Um, yeah-

I will say there were two, th- three significant, like, character reveals about, like, who someone is or isn't that they're little things, but they impact a lot of theories that are out there.

And so the first is we got a little bit of background about Ridoc's family, and there's all this, like, theories about that, but he's just, like, a kid who has parents who fought all the time.
