Surprisingly enough, the ball that I hit off of Rodgers, as soon as I hit the ball, I did not see it until it went over Over the fence.

Yeah, so you were actually born in Arkansas, correct? Yeah,

Born in Arkansas, but my family, when I was just 11 months old, moved to the West Coast.

Right.

So that's where I grew up until I left to go to Arizona State.

It was Santa Monica, Santa Monica High.

And in fact, Tommy Lasorda was a scout when I was a senior in high school.

It was a bright Sunday afternoon.

It was the final game of the series.

There had actually been a couple of pitches thrown in the bottom of the fourth inning.

And from center field, you know when something kind of goes awry because you hear something a little different.

And off to my right, I could hear the crowd, and the noise did not match with what was happening on the field.

And I looked over, and here comes the two guys.

That makes complete sense that they would seek you out after having that moment in Dodger Stadium.

Yeah.

And it was an invitation to try out for what they called a Dodger rookie team, which was comprised of guys that they invited.

Really bright idea.

Everybody that they were interested in signing to a professional contract, um, there was a series of three weekend tryouts to make a Dodger rookie team, and Tommy Lasorda at the time was a scout.

He was also gonna be the coach of the Dodger rookie team.

So I go through that.

I make the team, and, uh, it was actually while I was playing for the Dodger rookie team that Bobby Winkles, who was the head coach at Arizona State, saw me play.
