Richmond Lattimore

I haven't really done anything but skim through some of the familiar bits just to get a taste of how the translation is a little bit different.

But I also realized that a long time ago at a book sale here in Madison, I found The Odyssey of Homer, a modern translation by Richmond Lattimore.

So I have yet another translation.

This one was done, I believe, in 1965, also in poem form.

It's not five, it's six years later.

In 1967, we have this by Richard Lattimore.

I have a little note here.

This was all just like a Google search that pulled up all of these different ones here.

You know, my dad is a literary man as well.

And I was very blessed to be surrounded by just a... beautiful home library and we had this rule at home that you couldn't organize the books because that way when you went looking for one book another one would fall off the shelf and you'd get missed you know waylaid and you'd you'd find something else that you were excited about so for me from a very young age you know i learned that being surrounded by books meant being surrounded by friends and especially the greek and latin classics i was 12 years old lying on my grandparents floor flipping through the Richmond Lattimore translation of the Odyssey.

And so I never stood a chance, really.

And, you know, it was plus, of course, it's such a lucrative career to go and pursue Greek and Latin.
