So I guess you were probably, when I first started talking to you about the Shaver mystery and the man who invented flying saucers and Richard Shaver and ancient underground civilizations and, you know, how this kind of fed into the creation of UFO belief.

I mean, you seem pretty understanding, but what were your initial thoughts? Because I was deep in the beginning stages of that movie when we first met.

So I did a phone call and, um, Brian and said, well, yeah, I want to be involved.

And just to contextualize it, Brian Emmerich is the biggest owner probably of all Shaver and Palmer ephemera, like letters and communications between the two, and certainly the largest holder of Richard Shaver artwork.

Because Richard Shaver, who talked about this civilization beneath the surface of this planet in a series of science fiction stories, which were published and pushed as real stories or based on real stories in the pages of Amazing Stories, science fiction's largest pulp magazine printed here out of Chicago back in the 40s.

He also featured my old friend Jim Mosley, our mutual friend, Geneva and I, Jim Mosley, Gray Barker, Richard Shaver, Major Donald Kehoe, all the well-known figures of the UFO field.

Four, the Shaver mystery, Deros and Teros.

In the 1940s, a writer named Richard Shaver initiated a massive wave of subterranean lore in Amazing Stories magazine, claiming he had direct contact with an underground civilization.

The lore.

Shaver claimed that a superior prehistoric space race left Earth eons ago due to solar radiation, but left behind their deep Earth cities and advanced Wondermech machinery, the Darrow.

Yeah, exactly.

But pre- but predating Ivan Sanderson, Raymond Palmer and Richard Shaver, who-

... anybody who regularly watches the show knows I spend way too much time thinking about and talking about, I made one short documentary, The Shaver Mystery, and I'm still making the feature documentary, The Man Who Invented Flying Saucers, about these two men.

Richard Shaver said, uh, that there was this race of people he called the sea people that were an an- part of the antediluvial races here, and they had these type of ships.

And everybody dismissed Shaver, like he's mad, he's crazy.
