But you know, I started, uh, my cricket when I was 10, 11 year old kid, and th- that was the all-rounder of the four, era of the four great, great all-rounders.

Uh, Sir Richard Hadlee, Lord Ian Botham, Imran Khan, and of course Kapil Dev.

And all of these all-rounders were my heroes.

I wanted to be like them when I started my cricket.

I remember once we were playing in New Zealand, and it was a three-day game.

Richard Hadlee was still bowling quite quick, and I opened, and he took me to a side.

He says, "You know, he doesn't like being hit, and he doesn't bowl a lot of bouncers.

So if he bowls you a bouncer, pull him, and he'll not bowl a bouncer again to you." I got a 70 odd.

He, he wasn't still going as a New Zealand captain or player when they went on that amazing run in 1985 and 1986, which included back-to-back series victories over Australia at home and away, and then of course in England in 1986.

But by that time, it's very much Jeremy Coney's team and the magic of, of Richard Hadlee, uh, and what he was able to achieve later in his career.

But all up for Howarth, 47 Test matches, 2,500 runs at 32 with those six hundreds.

Uh, his vision, his, uh, love of the traditions of the game, his insightful comments and helpful advice to other players, um, mark him above many others, and he deserves to be regarded as our greatest player.

And here is Sir Richard Hadlee, who is with us.

As time went on, he went on to do some wonderful deeds, and, uh, certainly rate him as our best ever batsman or absolutely outstanding player.

And wherever you look around the country, every county had got those kind of players.

Even when Richard Hadlee and Clive Rice were taking wickets with their world-class talent for Nottinghamshire, Kevin Cooper was there in the background doing a sterling job for them.

And I've always thought that players like Steve Barwick were the ones to be much admired because they weren't glamour cricketers, but my goodness, they were very, very effective ones.

So once again, my condolences to everybody connected to Steve, particularly his family.

So there is some patience required here, but I think we're not in this part of the cycle in a mode for Australia to be patient with establishing potentially a completely new top order if we move Travis Head around.

I, I like that you mentioned 1984, 'cause, uh, what happened just after that was Richard Hadlee went and, and New Zealand won, won in Australia for, for, for the...

You know, if we could recall, if we could sort of recall that sort of feeling in about a few, in about three or four months' time, we-- that would be very, very nice from a, from a New Zealand point of view.

But I, I take everything you've said about that Australian batting lineup, and I still think what'll happen in South Africa is maybe Marnus won't go, and Josh Inglis will come in and bat three 'cause he's been in their squad for a long, long time.

The difference between Akram and Starc is that Starc's got a bowling average of 26, so his looser balls are looser than the great champion's.

He's not as accurate as guys like Richard Hadlee or Curtly Ambrose.
