Richard Bachman

I was gonna say, that's not the name he went by when he wrote the story.

He wrote it under Richard Bachman.

And authors will write things, like the Bronte sisters used men, males names, men's names.

Granted, they all started with the same letter as their actual first name, which is kind of cool, but because they didn't think that they would be taken seriously.

She was very confident in who she was.

And I wonder if, if Stephen King is another example of that.

You know, he, he starts out his career writing a couple of books under this Richard Bachman name, and then is like, "You know what, bitches? I'm good with who I am.

I am Stephen fucking King.

Sorry, my iPad.

So the most famous one is Richard Backman.

And the reason why he started doing this is because the perception like in the 70s and 80s is that like the readers only tolerated like one book a year for the author.

So in order for him to kind of get by this, he kind of created this persona and he started like releasing more books under this pen name.

go first? When it first came out under Richard Bachman and when I was halfway through it, I realized and thought to myself, man, this guy writes like Stephen King.

I think I said this on the podcast.

Anyways, when he came out, Stephen King came out and said, yeah, I'm Richard Bachman.

I was like, I knew it.

And Hoopla also has, I think, like online courses and audio books and other stuff, too.

So anyways, Thinner is based on the Richard Bachman slash Stephen King novel of the same name.

It tells the story of an overweight lawyer who's cursed by a gypsy to lose weight at an alarming rate.

It's a simple premise that makes you wonder, huh,

This is an example of what happens when you make the movie exactly like the book.

And the problem is they chose one of Stephen King's worst books to adapt.

I've read most of the Richard Bachman series.

I think this is the worst one.

I hadn't realized it was so widespread.

Obviously, there are kind of famous examples out there like Stephen King being Richard Bachman and, um, so on.

But, um, yeah, it was actually my agent's idea to come up with, uh, a pseudonym for the first book.

Um, and that was because it was, it was an American set book, and as you can, you can, people can probably hear from my accent, I am, I'm not American.

It kind of lost me in the middle for a bit.

And then I found what was actually turned out to be a Stephen King book in the library when he was writing under Richard Bachman.

And I was like, wow, like, what is this? This is incredible.

Like, I think I was too young to be reading it really.

But we actually have three versions.

We have the original 1982 novel, which was written by Stephen King under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.

The really gritty one.

Super gritty.

It

reminds me of the Stephen King and Richard Bachman situation decades ago.

But back then it was about oversaturation, like King was just writing way too fast for the publishers to print.
