Richard and Judy

Do you find now you have a child and your time is very limited, how much time you wasted before you had a child? Because I just was so much more productive when I had small children.

than the times before when I'd been skinning up and smoking spliffs while watching Richard and Judy at 10.30 in the morning.

Me and my wife, we talk about this all the time.

It's almost like, so what were we doing before? Like, I can't even remember, but I think before my child came along, I had a nine to five.

And that's happened from the publishing side, I think.

I think around the time 20 years ago where book clubs became massive, like as in celebrity book clubs like Oprah and Richard and Judy, They worked out who the key reader was, and it very obviously wasn't a young man.

And the market sort of went in that direction increasingly.

So there's been a kind of irony where publishing has spoken more and more about inclusivity.

So there's no end to the amount of celebrities that have book clubs.

Richard and Judy were a big one.

OK, so I'm showing my age.

And, you know, if you go to charity shops, which is my passion, sometimes you'll find a Richard and Judy pic.

And it has like a little sticker picture of them on the front.

Yeah.

So this is a Richard and Judy pic.

And it's just very cute, very nostalgic for me.

Yeah.

And I was lucky enough to see the search for a bestseller run by Richard and Judy.

It was the first time they did this competition.

Right.

But publishing came to me very easy, much easier than it probably should have.

Yeah.

The power of Richard and Judy as well at the time.

Yes.

And ultimately, I had a year and a half to do it, but I ended up presenting that radio program.

And I also got asked on to this morning with Richard and Judy to talk about another poem I'd written for a magazine about the erogenous zones, as I told you about the toe-stucking thing.

So, you know, the unexpected erogenous zones.

And I wrote about massaging Haagen-Dazs ice cream into the top of a bald man's pate.

And the sun liked it.

And they put, don't be a thickie, give a ball to your lickie.

That's why I got asked on Richard and Judy, you see.

And so then I ended up on telly and on the radio, but it wasn't on purpose.

Um, no.
