in running your business, either business now, because obviously, you've got experience in businesses, what would you consider as being one of the most challenging things you've had to overcome in your business careers?
21:49
narrowly focusing on a single industry which really shot me in the foot in about 92 i think it was i think it was a time when politically we the uk was trying to get aligned with what i think was then called the um european exchange rate mechanism you guys would probably remember better than me Yeah, is that what it's called? And we were having to mess around with interest rates to try and maintain the value of the pound.
22:21
And it had a crushing impact on the housing market.
22:25
And yeah, guess what? I had a business which focused on construction.
22:29
And suddenly, a lot of the construction companies were putting a padlock and chain on sites.
22:36
companies were closing down going out of business and my business was entirely dependent on that so I had to do the same we had to put a lock and chain and walk away from the business and that was massive well it was terminal for the business I never went back to that because it was too costly so when I see companies and we look at where their business is coming from I can remember a company in the Berkshire area who said to me, when I was looking at their business, they said, well, the key of our business is we've got these two great clients.
23:12
And they must have seen the blood drop from my face.
