Number three is that babies should be started on rice cereal.

So rice cereal used to be recommended as a baby's first food.

Here's our updated perspective or what we know to be true today is that there is not one perfect first food for babies.

What really matters most is the overall nutritional picture.

But I do want to speak specifically to rice cereal and why I do not recommend it as a baby's first food.

and why this is outdated feeding advice because rice cereal in particular lacks overall nutritional value and also contains arsenic, which is a heavy metal.

So if we are going to start on a baby cereal, then opting for an oatmeal or a multigrain cereal would be a much better nutritional choice.
