An opera from MacArthur genius and prime opera podcasting rival of OBS, in the most complimentary way, Rhiannon Giddens.

Her new, within the last five years, opera with Michael Abel's Omar, about Omar ibn Said and his life story, which is based on the only surviving Arabic autobiography of a slave in the United States.

It will be running from October 23rd to 28th.

And when it won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2023, the committee described it as an innovative and compelling opera, a musical work that respectfully represents African as well as African-American traditions, expanding the language of the operatic form while conveying the humanity of those condemned to bondage.
