Rhaegal

This is why I'm one of those readers who at least likes to believe that Jon having Targaryen ancestry has more significance to it.

More than just the ability to ride Rhaegal, that is.

Some would say the idea of Jon ending up on the throne is against the characters' desires.

That, I feel like, is because that's not actually what the characters like in the books.

Drogon.

Rhaegal and Viserion are the dragon names, just to let you guys know.

I know there's a lot of our listeners that will get upset and send me the...

I don't know if you know this.

Drogo, black as midnight, nuzzled against her shoulder.

Rhaegal, green and bronze, hissed in the morning sun.

And Viserion, cream and gold, wrapped himself around her leg like a cat.

They crossed the Red Waste, losing more people every day, until finally they reached Qarth, the greatest city that ever was or will be.

Northern forces hit Harlaw and Great Wyk simultaneously, spreading the ironborn too thin to mount effective resistance.

And then the dragons came.

Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion descended on Old Wyk like the wrath of ancient gods themselves.

The longships in the harbor erupted in flames, centuries-old vessels reduced to ash in moments.

on the whole these engagements remain small until at last they confront each other in a series of hills just beyond the rainwood stannis's men dig in and lure the unsullied into uneven terrain forcing them uphill into mud-slicked embankments arrows pepper the phalanx from concealed positions the unsullied do not break but the casualties mount Behind them, Dothraki scream in frustration, unable to charge through the forested terrain, especially as wooded stakes slow their advance.

It is only when Rhaegal sweeps low and unleashes fire that Stannis is forced to retreat, though the casualties favor the king.

Several more battles like this slow down Daenerys' advance.

With their armies bogged down, time comes to release her new Dornish allies.

In the skies above, a shriek splits the dawn.

One of her dragons, Rhaegal, soaring and circling the mast before diving seaward after a gull.

Dany's other dragons answer with thunderous calls.

Viserion's ivory scales glint in the morning's light as he perches atop the foremast.

Her dragons scream through the sky, scorching enemy supply lines and battering their forward camps.

Drogon lays waste to siege towers and supply depots, Rhaegal turns columns of men into ash, and Viserys burns through the advance guard.

But the Reach is vast, and the Tyrells clever.

They split their forces across multiple fronts, capturing towns and castles faster than Daenerys' dragons can respond.
