no.
ChrisHOST

Like a lot of Utena, like Ikuhara designs in some of the characters.
ChrisHOST
19:24
Yeah, no, it's very just influenced by the look of and it works it doesn't clash it doesn't feel like you're watching an anime of two different styles coexisting which some uh anime that try to do retro designs kind of kind of pull off it's just seamless it's really good and it does feel like it could be from the 90s but there's also like nope this is very modern um at the same time the animation is so slick the the The girl that Laura meets and is living with in the modern age is a boxer.
ChrisHOST
19:58
So she's whipping ass all over the place.
Mischa StantonHOST
23:45
Oh, I see.
Mischa StantonHOST
23:47
Riku is Utena in this moment.
Mischa StantonHOST
23:48
Yeah!
Mayanna BerrinHOST
23:50
Got it.
DanielleHOST

And this is a previous show by the same studio, and I believe the director of Sayonara Lara also directed the movie for this show and some episodes for the TV anime.
DanielleHOST
6:00
So I was like, all right, that's a good enough excuse for me to revisit this, especially because... as I'll probably mention a million times this episode I rewatched Utena between my first and second watch of this
AustinHOST
6:14
I'll just correct that not the same director as the movie for Goodbye Laura though the director of that did work on this show just not the director of either this or the movie which I will talk about in
DanielleHOST
6:26
a second the animation director for the movie
AustinHOST
8:47
I've got to put a big pin in that one, but so true, Bestie.
AustinHOST
8:50
You've never been more right.
DannyHOST
8:52
Like when you said, oh, I watched Utena between the first and second watch of it, and I was like, thank God that Ikuhar is far away from this production.
AustinHOST
9:01
For myself, I will say, I think I said at the end of the last episode, I know I had started but not finished the show.
ElenaHOST
6:11
That's just how she is.
DanGUEST
6:14
Sorry, I do agree with you at least a little bit that her actions in the filler would be no different, but only because the people writing the filler didn't have any idea how to do that, how to include any of that, because they were just treating her like a girly girl instead of a girl who does the Utena thing sometimes.
ElenaHOST
6:39
Yeah, admittedly, Ukyo is presented more feminine when not written by Rumiko Takahashi.
DanGUEST
6:47
Yeah, it's really apparent in the filler, yeah.

33 MINS LATER

ElenaHOST
39:25
They're talking about Tsubasa liking girls, and one of the classmates is like, why is she going after Ukyo then? And I'm like, is there someone in their class that doesn't know Ukyo's not a boy?
DanGUEST
39:37
I mean, yeah.
DanGUEST
39:39
Well, this was still before Utena, but it does sound a lot like the whole, like, does she know, or is she like, does this random classmate know, or is this random classmate like, also in the closet?
ElenaHOST
39:55
Yeah, does his classmate just love the princely character at her school, you know? Where it's like, yes, homo.
Nick BallantyneHOST
6:14
And Anthe had choo-choo.
Nick BallantyneHOST
6:16
Man, can we take a moment to remember sweet, beautiful Utena.
Nick BallantyneHOST
6:21
Sweet, simple Anthe.
Nick BallantyneHOST
6:24
Nothing really beat
