Revolution from within

Second wave feminism once had the qualities, and Steinem often said she wanted to recapture.

In the afterworld, in her 1992 book Revolution From Within, Steinem dreamed of a national honeycomb, of small groups that once personal and political, then would provide the social infrastructure for a revitalized feminism.

She saw Alcoholics Anonymous as a model.

If two white male alcoholics could start a national network of meetings that are free, leaderless and accessible, she wrote, so can we.

Today, coming here on the train, I was rereading your book, Gloria, Revolution From Within, about self-esteem, and I kept thinking, "What a great...

So much wisdom in it." I, I think I read it before, you know, 20-odd years ago.

I want to ask, thanks to all the panel, um, thanks to you, Gloria.

You've been a total inspiration to me in my work in the women's liberation movement all through the 1970s and '80s, and continue to be.

My question to you, um, I'm wondering in relation to your book Revolution From Within, and you emphasize in that book a lot about being in contact with the child within, to what extent has being on the road helped you get in touch with that part of you, that historical part?

Sure.

Gloria Steinem died on Wednesday.

Many years ago, her book Revolution From Within was the book that introduced me to feminism.

It opened a door, and through that door, I eventually discovered Jewish feminism and thinkers such as Judith Plaskow.

Glasgow drew our attention to the fact that although women may have been at the Sinai, their experiences were largely absent from the telling of Sinai.
