Um, I just composed, um, an orchestral piece for the Oakland Symphony Orchestra.

I was commissioned to write a piece of music that preceded Verdi's Requiem.

I don't know if you know Verdi's Requiem, but it's a mass for the dead.

And my task or the assignment was to write what would be a prequel for the mass for the dead.

So what would cause somebody to write a piece of music that would have to honor the dead? And so I took today's landscape in the world.

In the 2025/26 season, Ting returns to the Atlanta Opera and will conduct the world premiere of Water Memory, the second world premiere in the TAO commissions that she leads.

In the orchestra/choral field, she joined Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie in 2024 as assistant conductor for the performance of Verdi Requiem at the Philharmonie Berlin.

Ting previously has worked with ensembles including the BBC Concert Orchestra, Augusta Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, South Carolina Philharmonic, Cincinnati Sinfonietta, Opera Philadelphia, Opera Orlando, and orchestras in Europe, Asia, and Central America.

A past recipient of the Bruno Walter Memorial Fellowship, Ting earned her DMA from Eastman and is an alum of the Dallas Opera Hart Institute for Women Conductors.

On the disabled list, conductor Riccardo Muti has canceled upcoming engagements for a, quote, necessary medical procedure, though as of recording, he still plans to return to Chicago to conduct Verdi's Requiem with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in October.

Exit stage right, iconic character, actor, and star of Rocky Horror Picture Show, Tim Curry has died at 80.

Known for his arch humor, a putty-like face, and a gift with voices, he starred as Mozart in the original 1980 Broadway production of Amadeus.

He was unhappy here with seats not being filled.

He didn't understand that when you had the Verdi Requiem, it wasn't an immediate box office the way he had experienced in Europe.

Otherwise, he loved the orchestra and he loved the public here in Pittsburgh.

This Saturday, Arturo Toscanini begins a new Saturday series of concerts with the NBC Symphony.

And for his premiere, the celebrated maestro Toscanini will present a special hour-and-a-half performance of Verdi's Requiem.

And beginning next Monday, you can hear the first in a new series by the Boston Pops Orchestra.

... where we are in London, um, one of the songs you've chosen is Verdi's Requiem.

Can you talk me through the significance of that? 'Cause I believe you performed it in Kyiv in the early stages of the war and sadly lost one of the men who was, who was performing that song.

So just talk me through-

... why you've chosen it for tonight's show.

So the Verdi Requiem is the greatest masterpiece that is written to honor the dead, and what better occasion than our fifth anniversary tour.

It has personal meaning for me because my first, very first concert since the invasion when I went back into Ukraine when the war was thriving, uh, I performed the Verdi Requiem at the Lviv National Opera House.
