Now before then, had you had, was there some traction going on, like, with the label? 'Cause you ended up signing with Republic, or was this kind of-

Kinda.

It actually w-

[laughs]

Amazing.

When did Republic or the imprint of Republic come around, and how did the record deal come about?

Yeah, so I, I work with, um, this songwriter.

It's so beautiful because my memories of him, not only just as a fan, I had the chance of meeting him.

And I had the pleasure of when I, back in another lifetime, I worked freelance at Republic Records where I was working Black Sabbath 13 album and doing stuff for them.

So I got to work with them, which was incredible.

So I've had the pleasure of meeting Ozzy a few times over the years.

That's correct.

And then I remember Monte, the guy that runs, uh, Republic Records-

[laughs]

... being like, "No, I love 'em.

We saw several different child stars support him, speak out against him, so I didn't know where she really stood.

That in my contract as a Republic records artist, I want to see them add t- moving forward.

I need to call Monty Libman about this.

Mm.

I'm excited about what's coming as well, and I'm really excited to bring you all today's episode that I'm super stoked to say was with Addison of Showing Teeth.

yeah yeah i mean the songs have been done for over a year at this point which is kind of funny to say but truly like anyone who does music especially diy knows how hard it is to like do stuff on your own and how much money it costs and so yeah that's the main thing is like oh my god i've been waiting for this for so long and the more people that get involved makes it a lot harder.

And believe it or not, this did top, at one point, the U.S. Rock Albums chart.

Certified Gold by the RIAA.

Probably got dropped in 2003, spent the next couple of years writing and demoing.

And then the management was sort of passing CDs around town and eventually Universal came knocking, Universal Republic.

And again, no showcase or anything.

And they just offered a deal, modest deal, but I was like, yeah, let's do this.

Mm.

He's at Republic.

Kevin Lipson is, this guy's a savant when it comes to the digital and streaming, and he j- he loves numbers.

And his whole team of commerce were just absolutely killers, still to this day.

Mm-hmm.

But when you see Republic or Island doing crazy numbers, it's because he's watching and he's seeing the littlest of things, or him and his team, and they go and they activate, and they know exactly what to do.

Mm-hmm.

When you see those week one numbers from Republic, I promise you, Kevin Lipson is across all of that.

If you want to be in music business, first of all, stop pretending that you're like some holy thing.

I was signed to Universal Republic.

One of my songs, Mourning, was never promoted.

And it's platinum now just because it was that good of a song.
