Renzo Piano

Like let's look at it because not only is it by, uh, world-renowned architect out of Switzerland.

It also sits right next door to the B-CAM, which is the Broad Contemporary Art Museum annex of LACMA that was designed by Renzo Piano and his team at the Renzo Piano Building Workshop.

There's a beautifully designed building and detailed and executed building as well.

Like there's many critiques on all of these things, but the fact that they realized it to the extent that they did with the amount of articulation and the detailing and the space and all of these things.

That dialogue between the two buildings.

I like dialogue.

Is a really interesting, because it's also like if you look at it, now that I think about it too, and I, we didn't talk about this then, but I'm now going like Renzo pianos building is a, it's a rectangle and it's very regimented.

It is very like purposeful in every move.

La voce di Renzo Piano è inconfondibile.

L'architetto del Beaubourg di Parigi e di molti altri musei del mondo, dell'Auditorium del Parco della Musica di Roma, di biblioteche, di grattacieli come lo Shard di Londra o la sede del New York Times a New York, ma anche di biblioteche, di centri culturali.

Ecco, quest'uomo sa cosa va incontro quando offre le sue opere al giudizio dei critici più severi, i suoi studenti.

E lo fa apposta.

Renzo Piano è titolare di un corso al Politecnico di Milano che si chiama "L'arte del costruire", in cui insegna la sua concezione di architettura, ma lo fa senza distillare nozioni o teorie, ma chiedendo ai suoi studenti di vedere di persona gli edifici che ha progettato, di andare a studiarli sul posto e di trovarne i punti deboli e i difetti.

In altre parole, chiede a loro di correggerlo, trasformando l'errore nel baricentro delle sue lezioni.

Io non ho mai insegnato in vita mia, non son, non son capace a insegnare.

Ogni volta scoprono l'errore e io mi offro martirio, eh.

Quel professore si chiama Renzo Piano e nelle sue lezioni spesso non è solo.

Ci sono ospiti che arrivano da mondi diversi e solo apparentemente lontani.

Allora, per me la fotografia è passione.

Una nota per me non esiste, è un suono.

Due suoni fanno nota perché diventano una relazione.

Sono quelli che Renzo Piano chiama sconfinamenti, esplorazioni alla ricerca della bellezza, incursioni in mondi nuovi, nelle zone inesplorate dove nasce l'ispirazione.

Ma sì, bisogna sconfinare perché l'architettura è una sci-- troppo importante per restare chiusa in se stessa.

Along the two-mile circuit, just after turn eight, visitors milled about its newest neighborhood, Maratera, a 15-acre luxury development built directly on the Mediterranean Sea.

Even walking along Mara Terra's waterfront plazas under the cantilevered Lorenzo, a 17-story residential tower designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Italian architect Renzo Piano, to look like a fragmented vessel emerging from a shipyard, there is a clear view of the superyachts moored off the Mediterranean coast and the floor-to-ceiling windows of the high-rise apartments above.

Looking out over a balcony, Bernard d'Alessandri, the general secretary of the nearby Monaco Yacht Club, says, quote, there's a billion dollars worth of yachts in the bay, minimum, and another billion here in the port.

But the money spent on those super yachts pales in comparison to what buyers have dropped for homes in Maratera.

I'm going to have to pass on this.

The old Whitney was designed by Marcel Breuer and the new Whitney by Renzo Piano.

It's called the Met Breuer now, so I should have deduced that.

There was a journalist pre-opening of The New Whitney, and I saw Renzo Piano give a talk, and it was very funny.

He is a really engaging guy.

But when we walked through the building, we immediately got lost, and that's not a good sign for building design.

And there's essentially no daylight whatsoever.

Marcel Breuer also designed the engineering buildings at Yale, which are there a series of classrooms, which are just concrete walls, concrete ceiling, no windows, the most depressing places in the world.

The difference is you can't expand Stamford Bridge for anything like 250 million quid.

Okay? In my time working for, under Roman Abramovich's team, the plans that were approved, the stunning Renzo Piano cathedral look design-

You say cathedral, but I think it was more...

Wasn't it more based on Westminster Abbey? Actually, with the buttresses and everything.

Now, if anyone listening to this show has tried to do their bathroom in the last couple of years, they'll probably have figured out in the last two years, I think construction costs globally have ballooned.

Okay.

So my guess is, and you wouldn't have to build Westminster Abbey and hire Renzo Piano if you didn't want to, but the cost of rebuilding Stamford Bridge surely is in the billions of pounds today, not in the hundreds of millions.

And leaving aside all of the contentious issues that haven't completely gone away.

We'd like to have a native landscape up there integrating with the park and then offering, you know, another exhibit for guests that come here as well, sort of, so to speak.

And so I think Renzo Piano, the original architect, actually just You know, we wanted to integrate with the landscape around us.

I think it fits the vision from the Academy of Sciences very well in that regard.

We have volunteers that work on the roof, both from corporate groups and just local volunteers that come here helping to maintain the space.
